    MHPSS Officer

    Job Description

    Under the direct supervision of the MHPSS Supervisor, the MHPSS officer shall perform the following tasks and responsibilities:

    • The MHPSS Officer will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities within the organization’s programs.
    • This role involves providing direct support to affected populations, developing MHPSS programs, and ensuring the integration of MHPSS into other sectoral activities.
    • The MHPSS Officer will work closely with local communities, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to enhance the mental health and psychosocial well-being of individuals and communities, with a specific focus on supporting survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
    • The activities will be well-integrated into North-eastern Nigerian protection system and humanitarian coordination practices and guidelines. The activities will be carried out in Benue State areas according to the evolving needs of the project.

    Key Responsibilities

    Psychosocial Support:

    • Conduct specific child-focused activities for psychosocial well-being and building resilience for the most vulnerable and at-risk children and adolescents by ensuring a variety of activities that include active games, sports, expressive/creative activities, life skills, educational activities.
    • Mobilize adolescent boys and girls to launch empowering activities that suit their interest, promote their psychosocial well-being and create an opportunity for their direct social engagement at community level.
    • Conduct emotional group support sessions for caregivers.
    • Work with the Community Development focal person to conduct awareness sessions on child protection issues and issues affecting the protection and well-being of children.
    • Provide basic counselling sessions to support children and their caregivers to better cope with difficulties, distress and enhance their resilience.
    • Identify vulnerable children and adults in a need of protection or support and conduct referral to the case management team and/or education team as appropriate.
    • Establish and maintain positive and efficient relations with target beneficiaries, community members, humanitarian actors and all the other key stakeholders for the successful delivery of PSS interventions.
    • Ensure availability of the PSS materials and safe storage and maintenance of the PSS materials.
    • Prepare weekly activity schedule, keep record of newly registered beneficiaries, fill beneficiary’s daily’s attendance lists, and other reports as required by the line manager and ensure accuracy and timely submission.
    • Under the guidance of the MHPSS Supervisor, conduct participatory monitoring activities to collect beneficiaries feedback and opinions on the quality and satisfaction of activities.
    • Provide supervision, mentorship and guidance to PSS volunteers.
    • Perform any other job-related duties as requested by the line manager.

    Child Protection:

    • Promote inclusion and equal access for every child, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and at-risk children.
    • Identify potential cases of children victims and/or at heightened risk of violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect and any other child protection concern or threat and report to the Case Worker.
    • Always maintain strict confidentiality regarding information and data of beneficiaries.
    • Ensure Tdh Child Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Minimum Standards are mainstreamed through all the programmatic activities.
    • Report serious cases of abuse committed against children to the Project Manager and/or Tdh CFRM. Strict confidentiality must be respected.
    • Provide specialized psychosocial support to survivors of SGBV, including trauma-informed care and counseling.
    • Facilitate access to additional services for SGBV survivors, such as medical care, legal assistance, and safe shelter.
    • Develop and implement safe and confidential referral pathways for SGBV survivors to access comprehensive care.
    • Conduct awareness-raising sessions on SGBV and available support services within the community.

    Coordination & Representation:

    • Coordinates with other Tdh sectors to ensure implementation of standardized activities and with other departments (programme and support) of Tdh Nigeria as necessary
    • Represent Tdh project in fora and meetings held at site level in her/his field of expertise.

    Other:

    • Fully comply with Tdh Code of Conduct and ensure Child Safeguarding Policy is always upheld.
    • Ensure adherence to Tdh standards and quality requirements in all the project activities.
    • Adhere to and ensure the team under her/his responsibility follows Tdh administrative and logistical regulations and procedures.

    Qualifications

    • bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, or a related field.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in providing MHPSS services in humanitarian or development contexts.
    • Experience in designing and implementing MHPSS programs and activities.
    • Proven experience in supporting survivors of SGBV, including trauma-informed care and counseling.

    Skills:

    • Strong understanding of MHPSS principles and best practices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work in challenging environments and under pressure.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    • Proficiency in using MHPSS assessment and intervention tools.

    Other Requirements:

    Case Work Officer (ECHO)

    Job Description

    Under the direct supervision of the Case Management Supervisor, the Case Work officer shall perform the following tasks and responsibilities:

    • Provide individually tailored comprehensive Child Protection Case Management Services to Unaccompanied, Separated, and other Vulnerable Children in line with the Case Management Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Receive and provide referral services for specialized case management services.
    • Ensure the confidentiality of the information collected during the case management services and input the information on digital platforms.
    • Establish a harmonious working environment with a wide range of stakeholders more specifically, children, beneficiaries, service providers, community leaders, religious leaders, and local government authorities.
    • Raise the profile of case management services in the project area by training volunteers and raising awareness in the community.
    • Support the establishment and strengthening of Community Based Child Protection mechanisms.
    • Make strong efforts for the sustainability of the Community Based Child Protection Mechanisms by linking them to government structures and long-term programs/projects.
    • Submit detailed weekly and monthly activity reports to the Case Management Supervisor
    • Provide weekly and monthly situation report on the context and the evolving risks and threats hampering the protection and wellbeing of children in Tdh project location.

    • Proven experience in working with children and families in crisis situations.

    Skills

    • Strong understanding of child protection principles, standards, and best practices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with children and their families sensitively and respectfully.

    Education Supervisor (ECHO)

    Job Description
    Assessment, Programme Design, and Planning:

    • Assesses the situation and analyses the needs of education in the intervention area to identify the appropriate and relevant actions and interventions.
    • Conduct regular assessments, and analyses and advise programme design and modifications.
    • Lead implementation and monitoring of education in emergency activities.
    • Be responsible for the timely and successful implementation and reporting of education activities (basic literacy, numeracy, Social and Emotional Learning, skills acquisition programmes), by the projects’ objectives/outcomes.
    • Undertake risk assessment in collaboration with MEAL and programme team to justify education intervention.
    • Ensure that issues of gender, disability, disaster risk reduction, and conflict sensitivity are considered in the education program design, beneficiaries’ selection, and project implementation.
    • Supervise the day-to-day activities of assigned staff to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of their respective roles in the implementation and client support processes.
    • Raise to the line manager new needs in items and services for the implementation of educational activities and participate in the development of PSR and procurement plans.
    • Supervise the effective implementation of the vocational skills training program, livelihood, and small business component of the project.
    • Establish and manage up-to-date records of all activities at the skills facilitation and training centers, including statistics and stock records of materials/equipment.
    • Maintain the database on vocational skills training and/or small business grant
    • Oversee the small business grant start-up, apprenticeship, and cooperatives

    Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning:

    • Provide valuable inputs to the MEAL team on the development of educational tools to ensure that an effective and results-based monitoring system is in place
    • Adapt Tdh education tools to be appropriate and relevant in the specific context of Bolori2, under the guidance of the Programme Manager and MEAL team
    • Ensure regular monitoring of projects results, documentation of projects case studies, lessons learned, significant changes, and best practices, and coordinating learning and reflection meetings/sessions
    • Provide input to the development or revision of a monitoring and evaluation system.
    • Monitor appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential education services
    • Prepares and submits periodic reports on the progress of the technical assistance being provided to the schools and TLSs
    • Ensure proper record-keeping of all activities monitoring and reporting tools and prepare weekly/monthly/quarterly activity reports on time
    • Participate in monthly project management & quarter review meetings to enable adequate staff support
    • Provide follow-up and technical support for schools and Temporary Learning Spaces
    • Identify any major discrepancy/ delay that may arise in project implementation and report immediately to the line manager
    • Provide a biweekly report on education needs, gaps, and responses for submission to the EiE Working Group
    • Participate in the development of new education proposals for funding and advise on their technical soundness and financial feasibility.
    • Coordinate with the MEAL team to prepare and submit biweekly SITREP and a monthly update on Report Hub for the attention of the EiE Working Group.

    Capacity Building:

    • Identify knowledge gaps/training needs and ensure that education officers, education volunteers, facilitators, and teachers receive appropriate orientation/training for teaching the target pupils
    • Develop and conduct training on theoretical, technical, and methodological aspects of education, and implement internal capacity-building activities with the education team.

    Team management:

    • Support the education team (officers, facilitators, and volunteers) to reach project objectives and provide them with continuous mentoring, guidance, and coaching
    • Organise weekly and monthly activity schedules for the team of monitors to conduct education activities
    • Conduct staff performance planning, evaluation, and appraisal and develop and implement capacity-building plans
    • Conduct regular meetings with the education officers and volunteers and ensure, with the line manager, close coordination with the case management team
    • Ensure respect for and compliance with Tdh Human Resources Policy.

    Advocacy and Networking:

    • Contribute to strengthening the capacity of education actors in line with the organization’s policies and strategies.
    • Liaise with other humanitarian actors in project locations to jointly advocate for education issues
    • Liaise with different humanitarian actors to identify training opportunities for the development of the capacities of the staff in program-relevant thematic areas
    • Participate in EiE working Group meetings, assessments, and workshops
    • Keep in close contact with respective local authorities, related government ministries, department, and agencies (SAME, SUBEB, LGEA, MoE) to ensure their active participation in the effective implementation of the educational activities as well as proper use of resources.
    • Work closely with the Case Management and MHPSS Supervisors and their respective team to ensure child protection and education activities are integrated into addressing child protection issues.

    Coordination and Representation:

    • Represent the organization in the local Education Interagency Coordination meetings, liaise with relevant Government line agencies, National, State, UN agencies, and I/NGOs working in the field of operation.
    • Liaise with other humanitarian actors in project locations to jointly advocate for education issues
    • Ensure close coordination with Tdh Child Protection teams for the purpose of identification and referrals
    • Coordinate with Tdh support departments to ensure timely and planned procurement, construction, and delivery of Education related supplies and services.
    • Proactively develop and maintain effective working relationships with the key stakeholders in her/his designated area
    • Ensure that Tdh Education services are well known within her/his designated area through the strong representation of Tdh in the Community/Camp-level meetings.

    Reporting:

    • Prepare and submit weekly, and monthly reports on education activities
    • Prepare and submit field visits or monitoring reports
    • Prepare training reports including pre and post-test analysis
    • Prepare success stories on case management activities
    • Contribute to documenting the response, experience, and lessons learned on Education in emergency programming.

    Qualification & Experience:

    Required:

    • University Degree or equivalent in education, humanitarian studies, or a related field is required; a master’s degree may be preferred.
    •  Experience in education in emergency contexts across MMC and Banki.
    • A minimum of 6years working experience implementing Education in Emergencies projects within an international organization or within the UN system is mandatory. Experience with both sectors will be an added advantage.
    • Demonstrated project/people management experience within a large team.
    • Excellent written and spoken English
    • Computer Literate with minimum skills in Word, Excel and internet applications.

    Desirable:

    • Knowledge of the NE context and local languages distinct advantage
    • Organized, meticulous and tactful.
    • Communicates well and can work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
    • Proactive, autonomous, rigorous, analytical, and is willing and motivated to work within an international and multi-cultural setting.
