Job Summary:
The Protection Officer (GBV & CP) is responsible for implementing and managing gender-based violence prevention, child protection activities, and other response activities within GOALPrime’s programs. The role involves working closely with survivors, children, families, communities, and stakeholders to provide support, raise awareness, and ensure the effective delivery of GBV services.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Implementation
- Implement child protection (CP) and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response activities in accordance with project plans, organizational policies, and donor requirements.
- Provide case management services to vulnerable children and GBV survivors, including assessment, planning, referral, and follow-up.
- Facilitate access to appropriate services such as health care, psychosocial support, legal assistance, and safe housing for children and GBV survivors.
- Community Engagement and Awareness:
- Conduct community outreach and sensitization sessions to raise awareness about CP and GBV issues, promote child rights, and gender equality
- Develop and distribute informational materials on CP, child rights, and GBV prevention and response.
- Engage with community leaders, parents, children, and groups to foster a protective and supportive environment and prevent CP and GBV issues.
Capacity Building:
- Provide training and support to staff, volunteers, and partners on CP and GBV principles, policies, practices, prevention, and response.
- Build the capacity of community members and stakeholders to recognize, prevent, and respond to CP and GBV issues.
- Develop training materials and tools to support capacity-building efforts.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor CP and GBV activities to ensure they are implemented effectively and meet quality standards.
- Collect and analyze data on CP cases, GBV incidents, and program outcomes to inform program planning and improvement.
- Prepare regular reports on CP and GBV activities, challenges, and achievements for internal and external stakeholders.
Coordination and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other NGOs, government agencies, and stakeholders to coordinate CP and GBV activities and referrals.
- Participate in coordination meetings and forums to share information and promote best practices in CP and GBV response.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of children and GBV survivors at local, national, and international levels.
Compliance and Ethics:
- Ensure all CP and GBV activities are conducted in compliance with organizational policies, donor regulations, and ethical standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the rights and dignity of children, GBV survivors, and their families.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks related to CP and GBV programming.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Gender Studies, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in child protection programming, GBV programming, case management, or a related area, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
- Strong knowledge of child protection principles, policies, and practices.
- Experience in providing psychosocial support and case management services to children and families.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- The ability to speak the local language (Hausa and/or Kanuri) is an advantage.

Reporting To: WASH Coordinator
Objective:
The Media & Communication Officer will support the implementation of our partnership with UNICEF Nigeria by utilizing creative skills to create project-focused, child-friendly content and by providing innovative input and ideas for GOALPrime content and development. She/He will play a lead role in coordinating GOALPrime’s media and communications initiatives, plans, and activities, working in close coordination with other sections of the organization, as per the responsibilities outlined below.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the provision of high-quality analysis on the humanitarian situation in Northeast Nigeria, pertaining to displacement-affected, contributing to improved GPON programmatic response and informing internal and external advocacy products.
- Visit field programmes on a regular basis to collect quality, videos, and testimonies and write stories about IDPs in Camps and Host communities, for external and internal use
- Build a database of high-quality activity videos for GPON archives.
- Support programme staff in incorporating and integrating advocacy into all aspects of GPON’s programme activities, strategy, and budgeting.
- Actively network with peers from other like-minded organizations involved in the response and lead the development of joint field-based advocacy towards target audiences.
- Draft and deliver necessary reporting documents related to the advocacy, communication & media strategy/strategies, including Advocacy and media Key Messages.
- Participate in relevant fundraising opportunities for advocacy and contribute to the development of quality proposals, ensuring the inclusion of advocacy activities on specific humanitarian and protection issues affecting displacement-affected where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain a media network with international and local journalists and advise on media engagement.
- Write a summary of weekly activities
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Key relationships

Experience and skills required for the role.
- Degree or certificate in photography, film production, fine arts, visual communications, journalism, or other relevant fields. If no degree is held, the candidate should be able to demonstrate a wealth of relevant experience.
- A minimum of 3 years relevant professional experience in photography, Journalism, film production, or visual communications.
- Fluency in English; fluency in Hausa and Kanuri is desirable.
- Experience working in the field in Northeast Nigeria or other high-security field locations.
- Knowledge of concepts in the field of resilience, humanitarian assistance
