    Laboratory Assistant, Quality Assurance

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in the analysis of raw materials, intermediate and finished samples.
    • Collect samples according to approved quality plan.
    • Carry out preliminary preparation of sample collected for X-ray analysis.
    • Carry out sieves and moisture analysis of samples.
    • Prepare slides and make microscopic observations.
    • Ensure cleaning of sample collection points.
    • Assist in managing inventory of chemicals and laboratory items including glassware in the laboratory stores.
    • Escalate any identified deviations from target quality standards promptly to the supervising Technologist.
    • Recommend and implement improvements to the plant’s laboratory operations and maintenance of lab equipment and instruments.
    • Ensure effective house-keeping in the laboratory.
    • Assist in the maintenance of ISO quality management systems in the unit.
    • Assist in the preparation of periodic lab analysis and activity reports.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head, Quality Control & Assurance or relevant supervising Officer.

    Requirements

    Education and Work Experience

    • National Diploma in Laboratory Technology  or equivalent, with 5 years relevant experience.

    Skills and Competencies

    • Good problem solving and analytical skills
    • Good knowledge of laboratory terminology and equipment
    • Ability to handle samples and operate lab equipment
    • Ability to pay attention to details
    • Good communication skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites

    Deputy Manager, Quality Assurance

    Job Objective

    • Coordinate all Quality Assurance activities as directed by Head Quality Assurance.
    • Drive the implementation of Quality Management System
    • Coordinates with Regulatory Agencies
    • Ensure the training and mentoring of staff

     

    Responsibilities:

    • To ensure compliance with all relevant statutory legislation and the internal company Safety Health and Environment Standards.
    • To ensure proper usage of laboratory chemicals in line with the manufacture’s instructions and company procedures for the control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
    • Liaise with quarry operation to monitor mining plan, to test quarry samples and maintain chemistry chart for quarry areas to indicate potential raw materials issues.
    • Carry out cross check sample testing for Cross Belt Analyzers.
    • Responsible for the calibration of Laboratory Equipment.
    • Ensure running calibration checks are carried out on analysis equipment such as XRF vs CBA
    • Maintain statutory quality records.
    • Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated and calibration record kept
    • Verify the accuracy of samplers, and sample taking and sample preparation and testing by the Quality technicians.
    • Ensure detailed Chemical analysis for (LOI, free lime, insoluble residue, chloride content, free silica, total carbonates, ferric oxide content, and sulfates) are periodically carried out.
    • Responsible for benchmark samples (competitors).
    • Ensure the monthly Analysis, Testing and Reporting coordination of Market samples
    • Ensure chemical and physical report are carried out as per plan.
    • Define Sample Matrix (Quality Control Plan) for raw materials, semi-finished, fuels) to guarantee level of product quality in line with defined quality targets.
    • Ensure that all activities are handled in line with safety regulations.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by Head, Quality Control & Assurance

    Requirements

    Educational Qualifications Requirement

    BSc. /HND or MSc. in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Chemistry or equivalent.

    Experience, Skills, and Competencies:

    • Minimum of 15  years relevant work experience
    • In-depth knowledge of quality audit/testing process for cement.
    • In-depth knowledge of the cement industry (Local and International)
    • Excellent project management skills
    • Proven training and facilitation skills
    • Good problem solving and analytical skill
    • Ability to pay attention to details
    • Good relationship management skills
    • Computer Literacy, Analytical and Troubleshooting skill

    Senior Quality Officer

    Job Purpose

    • Production specifications compliance

    Responsibilities

    • Perform analysis following the specified Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and analytical procedures.
    • Report testing results through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), other computerized systems, or through standard laboratory paper-based documentation.
    • Generate valid data, report results in appropriate database compared to established specifications while adhering to current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
    • Compare laboratory results with specifications for acceptability.
    • Maintain equipment and trouble shoots instrumentation problems, procedural problems or production/process problems.
    • Ensures safety, housekeeping, and compliance are maintained.
    • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

    Requirements

    • BSc./HND or MSc. in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Chemistry or equivalent, with 3 – 9 years relevant experience.
    • Must be detail oriented, conscientious and high reading comprehension skills.
    • Must Demonstrate proficiency in computerized systems.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and in a timely fashion.
    • Must be able to perform a variety of chemical analysis procedures as required within the work area.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and peers.
    • Comprehend mathematical concepts such as logarithms, algebraic, conversions, fractions, decimals, and rounding.
    • Ability to understand and follow written procedures.
    • Must be self-motivated and work with minimal direction.
    • Utilize good judgment in making decisions within limitations of recognized standard methods and procedures.
    • Must maintain GMP compliance within the assigned laboratory.
    • Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, teamwork, and leadership skills.
    • Complete all training and written exams.
    • Must be able to temporarily work a flexible schedule to meet business needs.
    • Knowledge of ISO systems will be an advantage.
