    Electrician

    Job Summary

    • This role will provide support in ensuring 24/7 reliable power supply, electrical distribution, and safety systems across WTC Abuja (CT, Clubhouse, SAT, and perimeter facilities). It will carry out installations, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems under supervision. Will also ensure efficient, safe, and uninterrupted service delivery to all residential and commercial tenants.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Participate in daily toolbox meetings led by the Electrical Supervisor.
    • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems including lighting, power outlets, distribution boards, cables, switchgear, and control panels.
    • Assist in operation and routine checks of HT (33KV/11KV) and LT systems, transformers, generators, high-capacity UPS, backup power systems, distribution boards, pump panels – all under supervision.
    • Ensure proper housekeeping of all panel rooms (cleanliness, no obstructions, proper labeling, pest control, etc.).
    • Perform Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) tasks – cleaning, tightening connections, thermal scanning, lubrication, filter changes, etc.
    • Conduct daily walk‑through inspections of electrical rooms, risers, common areas, and perimeter lighting; report abnormalities immediately.
    • Respond to electrical faults, tenant complaints, and emergency breakdowns (including after‑hours call‑outs as rostered).
    • Troubleshoot simple circuit failures, reset breakers, replace faulty components (sockets, switches, lamps, starters, contactors, etc.).
    • Escalate complex or high‑voltage issues to the Electrical Supervisor.
    • Follow all safety procedures – use of PPE, lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc‑flash mitigation, and permit‑to‑work systems.
    • Assist in supervising contractor work on site (e.g., witnessing tests, ensuring site safety).

    Experience:

    • Minimum 3–5 years of practical electrical experience in a commercial, high‑rise, or industrial facility.

    Education: 

    • Trade Test Certificate (Grade I, II, or III), National Diploma (ND) in Electrical Engineering. Completed technical apprenticeship / vocational training
    • Certifications (preferred):
    • Basic first aid / CPR
    • Safety training (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, or local equivalent)

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Hands‑on knowledge of HT/LT distribution, lighting circuits, motors, control panels, pump panels, and distribution boards.
    • Ability to read single‑line diagrams and electrical schematics.
    • Experience with diesel generator operation (basic start/stop, monitoring).
    • Familiarity with high‑capacity UPS systems, batteries, and earthing systems.
    • Good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

    HT/LT Generator Operator

    Job Summary

    • This role will ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of HT (33KV/11KV) and LT electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, and backup generators across WTC Abuja (CT, Clubhouse, SAT, and perimeter facilities). The Operator will monitor, operate, and perform routine checks on generators, synchronizing panels, and HV/LV distribution to guarantee 24/7 uninterrupted power supply. Will support the Electrical Supervisor and Engineer-in-Charge in maintaining power quality, safety, and compliance.

    Job Details

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Report for duty as per shift schedule; attend daily toolbox meetings.
    • Operate, monitor, and maintain 33KV/11KV HT switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and isolators.
    • Perform HT switching operations (with authorization and safety permits) including incoming feeder changeovers, transformer energization/de-energization.
    • Monitor LT panels, bus couplers, capacitor banks, and outgoing feeders; ensure load balancing and power factor within limits.
    • Start, stop, and parallel generators using synchronizing panels (sync panels); manage load sharing between multiple generators.
    • Conduct hourly/daily rounds of generator sets – check oil, coolant, fuel levels, battery voltage, alternator output, and abnormal noises.
    • Record operational data: voltage, current, frequency, kVA, kWh, fuel consumption, run hours.
    • Respond immediately to HT/LT faults (e.g., trips, earth leakage, overcurrent) – reset, isolate, or escalate as per procedure.
    • Perform daily housekeeping of HT/LT panel rooms, generator rooms, and synchronizing panel area – ensure cleanliness, no obstructions, proper illumination, and fire extinguishers in place.
    • Carry out routine generator testing under load (weekly/fortnightly) and no-load exercises as scheduled.
    • Monitor fuel tank levels, coordinate fuel refills with supervisor, and maintain fuel log.
    • Assist in planned preventive maintenance (PPM) of HT/LT systems and generators – cleaning, tightening, insulation resistance checks, oil sampling, filter changes (under supervision).
    • Strictly follow safety procedures: LV switchgear (HT) – permit-to-work, LOTO, arc flash PPE, earthing, and discharge rod use.
    • Maintain logs, shift handover reports, and defect entries in SMART CHECK (Rise App).
    • Report any abnormal conditions (e.g., transformer overheating, generator coolant leak, sync panel error) immediately to the Electrical Supervisor.
    • Must be willing to work day and night shifts, Sundays as per duty schedule, and public holidays.
    • Perform any other duties assigned by the Electrical Supervisor or Engineer-in-Charge.

    Requirements

    Experience:

    • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in HT/LT substation operations and diesel generator operation (500kVA to 2MVA+ preferred) in a commercial or industrial facility.

    Education:

    • National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering
    • Trade Test Grade I with additional HV switching certification.
    • Completed vocational training in power systems or generator operation.

    Preferred Certifications:

    • HV switching authorization (or willingness to obtain)
    • First aid / firefighting training
    • Generator manufacturer training (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, FG Wilson, Perkins) – preferred

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong knowledge of HT/LV switchgear, protection relays, transformers, and earthing systems.
    • Hands-on experience with generator control panels (Deep Sea, ComAp, or similar) and synchronizing panels.
    • Ability to read single-line diagrams (SLD), mimic panels, and fault indications.
    • Skilled in manual and automatic changeover operations (ATS/AMF).
    • Basic troubleshooting of generator faults (low coolant, overspeed, fail to start, etc.).
    • Familiarity with fuel management and load shedding procedures.
    • Good record-keeping and shift reporting skills.
    • Basic computer literacy – able to log data via mobile app (SMART CHECK).
    • Calm under pressure, safety-conscious, and team-oriented.
    • Flexible and willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

    Working Conditions

    • Work primarily in HT/LT switch rooms, generator enclosures, and synchronizing panel rooms.
    • Exposure to high noise, heat, vibrations, and live HT/LT equipment (strict PPE and safety protocols).
    • May require climbing ladders for transformer or busbar inspections.
    • Must be available for 24/7 shift rotation, including nights, Sundays, and public holidays.
    • On-call for emergency grid failures or generator breakdowns.
