Job Description

• Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax in articles
• Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources.
• Read, evaluate and edit article drafts or other materials submitted for publication, and confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization, or publication to suite Nairametrics writing style.
• Develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal.
• Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work.
• Work with the team to plan and manage the drafting of op-eds, articles, newsletter, web copy, etc.
• Manage the editorial process for the team's written products from concept development, drafting, review, copy editing, and sign-off;
• Work Analysts to develop consistent tone and style for all articles, newsletters and NM contents
• Work with Analysts and Freelancers to give story guide or suggestion

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 3 years experience as a media Editor
• Excellent writing skills in English, especially as applied to press communication, financial terms, and other news content
• Expert level proficiency as a proofreader;
• Experience working across digital platforms (websites, mobile, blogs, etc.)
• Ability to maintain focus and detail orientation when processing large amounts of information or copy
• Ability to collaborate with writers to understand their writing needs and maximize their impact
• Demonstrated ability to distill complex topics into language that is understandable to broader audiences
• Experience with pitching ideas to different audiences, with the ability to write compellingly to either professional or lay audiences from diverse backgrounds
• Demonstrated ability to work on tight deadlines.

The Financial Accountant is expected to manage day to day financial operations, develop and maintain adequate financial accounting systems and procedures for the Organization in order to provide accurate, timely, up to date financial information, analysis and statutory reports

Job Description

• Gather and monitor financial data i.e. sales revenues and liabilities
• Prepare budget for the organization and closely monitor budget performance
• Prepare monthly payroll and salary payment
• Manage tax payments, audits and other statutory responsibilities
• Monitor and report on accounting discrepancies
• Conduct detailed risk analyses to assess potential investment opportunities
• Maintain the financial database and ensure the integrity of the ledger.
•  Ensure the completeness and accuracy of all financial transactions in the General Ledger and ensure that all reconciliations are done in a timely manner.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual Financial Statements and reports in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards and relevant accounting concepts and principles.
• Represent the company in all matters as it relates to finance
• Liaise with regulatory and statutory bodies and ensure absolute compliance
• Perform month-end and year-end close processes

Requirements and skills

• Minimum of 3 years proven work experience as a Financial Accountant
• BSc degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software
• In-depth understanding of business bookkeeping procedures
• Solid knowledge of accounting regulations
• Previous experience in a media firm is an advantage
• Additional certification (e.g. ICAN, ACCA) is a must.
