    Driver And Administrative Assistant

    Purpose of the role

    Sightsavers are recruiting an experienced Driver and Administrative Assistant to transport office staff, consultants and visitors to and from Sightsavers sites as part of the Accelerate programme. They will also provide administrative tasks to help support the efficient operation of the office.

    About the role

    • Ensure safe driving, adhering to the laws of Nigeria with respect to other road users and pedestrians
    • Acting as a driver for staff in the performance of their duties
    • Occasionally transporting staff to and from the airport
    • Vehicle maintenance & small repairs, tyres, oil, cleanliness, logbooks
    • Check vehicles have required emergency equipment, reflectors, First Aid kits, fire extinguishers, replenish where necessary
    • Secure vehicles with locks/alarms
    • Recording all vehicle maintenance logs, replacement of tyres, oil, batteries
    • Obtain foreign currencies for staff who travel
    • Payment of legal charges
    • Maintain liaison with officials of immigration and embassies for staff entry visas and renewal of passports and work permits.
    • Assist in picking up invoices for procuring logistics.
    • Assist with the organisation of various office events (seminar, plenaries, meetings, workshops, Away Days etc)
    • Undertake photocopying, scanning and filing as and when required.

    Job holder requirements

    Essential:

    • Full clean driver’s licence held for two years plus
    • Defensive driving certification and experience
    • Basic Education Certificate (BECE) BEPCs
    • Trade Test Certificate
    • 3-5 years driving experience
    • Experience with working with NGOs.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word intermediate level
    • Good attention to detail
    • Fluency in French both written and spoken
    • Basic spoken English

    Desirable:

    • Good understanding of interpersonal and intercultural relationships
    • Alertness
    • Active listening

    Country Safety and Security Officer

    Contract: Fixed Term Contract 2 years (renewable)

    About the role of Country Safety and Security Officer

    The Country Safety & Security Officer, reporting to the Safety and Security Manager is responsible for the coordination of the country security plan within Nigeria. The position ensures local risk controls and standard operating procedures are adhered to and coordinates field safety. The position will be based in Kaduna, Nigeria.

    Key responsibilities for the Safety and Security Officer role include office security, domestic travel, international travel, communications and risk assessment. This is an important and varied role.

    Duties include:

    • Implementing and coordinating access control procedures
    • Managing office safety and security equipment such as fire and first aid kits and hibernation boxes
    • Coordinating journey management and conducting risk assessments on all journeys outside the office location
    • Acting as point of contact for traveller communications
    • Coordinating assessment of all hotels in Nigeria used by Sightsavers staff in line with SOPs
    • Coordinating and assessing all travel in Nigeria for international staff in conjunction with the Safety and Security Manager
    • Holding responsibilities for airport pick-ups and drop-offs
    • Delivering safety and security briefings to international visitors
    • Maintaining and updating the country welcome pack and arrivals brief
    • Holding the country emergency phone and maintaining the emergency communications system
    • Holding responsibility for all incident reporting within Nigeria
    • Coordinating country call tree, emergency contact lists and incident alert system
    • Assisting the SSM and the Country Director in preparing risk assessments for current and new programmes
    • Attending INGO security forums as Sightsavers’ representative
    • Preparing monthly threat situational reports for the country director and SSM
    • Coordinating vehicle safety checks in liaison with the lead driver
    • Ensuring all vehicles are registered and drivers are licensed
    • Ensuring all Sightsavers vehicles are equipped in line with SOPs
    • Responsibility for the vetting of third-party vehicle providers
    • Updating and maintaining approved hospital/clinic lists throughout Nigeria
    • Ensuring staff have appropriate medical equipment for domestic travel

    Essential:

    • BSc degree qualification
    • Fluent in English
    • Fluent in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba
    • Current clean drivers’ licence
    • Strong IT and communication
    • Proactive and passionate about security process and procedure
    • Previous proven track record working within an INGO environment
    • The ideal candidate will be a Nigerian national with a good understanding of operating in the central and northern states of Nigeria as well as having previous experience of working for an INGO. A security management qualification (CPP, PSP, PDI or equivalent) preferred.**
