Role Purpose:
The Nutrition Assistant provides specialized technical oversight and quality assurance for CASFOD’s nutrition interventions. The Nutrition Assistant is responsible for mentoring field teams, validating data, and ensuring that all Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP), Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP), and Cash Voucher Assistant (CVA) activities align with National guidelines, Protocols and SPHERE standards. The Nutrition Assistant acts as a technical bridge between field implementation and program management.
Reports to: Nutrition Officer
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance
- Protocol Adherence: Ensure all screenings, admissions, and discharges at OTP sites strictly follow the National Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) guidelines.
- Technical Mentorship: Provide daily on-the-job coaching to Nutrition Service Providers, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) on accurate MUAC measurements, Z-score calculations, and bilateral edema checks.
- Clinical Validation: Review \"Red\" (SAM) and \"Yellow\" (MAM) cases to ensure appropriate treatment or referral to Stabilization Centers (SC) is technically justified.
- IYCF Promotion: Oversee the technical quality of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counseling, ensuring messages are evidence-based and culturally appropriate.
Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) Integration
- Beneficiary Identification: Identify and register vulnerable households (caregivers of malnourished children) eligible for nutrition-sensitive cash transfers or food vouchers.
- CVA Sensitization: Educate beneficiaries for the purpose of cash voucher (e.g., Cash for Nutrition\")
- Distribution Oversight: Assist in the organization and monitoring of cash/voucher distribution points, ensuring safety, dignity, and transparency.
- Market Monitoring: Conduct basic price monitoring of \"Fresh Food Items\" in local markets to ensure the voucher value remains sufficient for a nutritious diet.
- Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM): Participate in surveys to track how the cash/vouchers were used and their impact on the child’s recovery and household food security.
Advanced Data Management and Analysis
- Indicator Tracking: Beyond simple recording, analyzing key performance indicators such as Average Length of Stay (ALoS), Cure Rates, Defaulter Rates, and Weight Gain to identify program gaps.
- Audit OTP registers and beneficiary ration cards weekly to ensure data consistency and prevent reporting errors.
Strategic Supply Chain and Logistics
- Support the Nutrition officer in forecasting RUTF, RUSF, and routine medication needs based on admission trends to prevent stock-outs.
Community-Led Innovation and Advocacy
- Lead the technical implementation of community-based nutrition solutions, such as the standardized production and quality control of \"Tom Brown\" for nutritional support.
- Represent CASFOD in local nutrition coordination meetings as delegated by the coordinator.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
- Experience: 2–4 years of practical experience in technical roles within the nutrition sector (specifically CMAM, MIYCN, and CVA).
- NYSC Certificate
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of the humanitarian nexus (HDP) and localization.
- Advanced knowledge of malnutrition treatment protocols and SPHERE standards.
- Proficiency in data tools (Excel, KoboCollect) and content creation tools) for technical reporting.
- Context: Proven experience working in the Borno State humanitarian context, particularly in Kunduga LGAs.

Role Purpose:
The MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) Assistant supports the implementation of MEAL activities within the organization. He/She assists in developing and maintaining data collection systems, ensures data quality, facilitates beneficiary feedback mechanisms, and helps generate reports to inform program improvements. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with program teams and stakeholders. Under the supervision of the MEAL Officer, the MEAL Assistant is responsible for supporting data collection, entry, and analysis to ensure accurate and timely reporting on program performance. He/She works closely with the MEAL team and program staff to establish feedback mechanisms and incorporate lessons learned into program design and implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Assist in the development and updating of data collection tools and templates.
- Support field data collection activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Support routine quantitative and qualitative data collection from project sites, partners, and beneficiaries using approved MEAL tools (surveys, checklists, focus group guides, etc
- Enter, compile, and analyze monitoring data using appropriate software.
- Assist in the design, adaptation, piloting and contextualization of data collection tools and digital forms (e.g., KoBo, ODK, CommCare) as guided by the MEAL Officer.
- Conduct regular field monitoring visits to assess implementation progress against workplans, indicators, and quality benchmarks in MEAL plans.
- Participate in baseline, midline, endline surveys and needs assessments, including sampling, data collection and basic data cleaning.
- Support the tracking of output and outcome indicators through routine monitoring, logframe tracking and indicator performance tracking tables.
- Conduct regular field monitoring visits to assess progress, challenges, and data reliability.
- Supervise and manage enumerators during fieldwork, providing on-site support and resolving issues as needed.
- Support baseline, mid-term, and end-line evaluations by assisting with data collection, entry, and analysis.
Accountability & Feedback:
- Support the implementation and regular functioning of community feedback and complaints mechanisms (CFM), including helpdesks, hotlines, suggestion boxes, and community meetings.
- Receive, record and categorize feedback and complaints in a confidential, safe and respectful manner, ensuring sensitive cases are referred according to established SOPs.
- Ensure that feedback and complaints are documented, responded to, and addressed appropriately.
- Promote community engagement and ensure community voice is integrated into program activities.
- Follow up to ensure that the feedback loop is closed and that communities are informed about how their feedback influenced program decisions.
Data Management & Quality Assurance:
- Maintain organized and secure data storage systems.
- Ensure data quality standards are adhered to SOPs, including validation and verification of data.
- Support periodic data audits and quality checks.
- Support in planning and conducting data collection for monitoring and evaluation purposes, including surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
- Ensure accurate data entry and data quality checks for program data.
- Assist in developing and maintaining databases and tools for data management and reporting.
- Support development of monitoring tools and data collection instruments.
- Train program staff and implementing partners on data collection methodology and tools, ensuring good practices in data collection are understood and adhered to.
Learning & Reporting:
- Assist in compiling lessons learned, good practices and success stories from project implementation, with a focus on how evidence has improved program quality.
- Support knowledge-sharing initiatives within the organization, such as training sessions or workshops.
- Contribute MEAL-related inputs to communication products, case studies and donor visibility materials, as required.
Capacity Building & Coordination:
- Support training and on-the-job coaching of project and partner staff on MEAL tools, data collection protocols, indicator definitions and accountability standards.
- Support training sessions for staff and partners on data collection and management.
- Provide regular support to field teams to improve the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of routine monitoring data.
- Coordinate with program teams to ensure MEAL activities align with project objectives.

Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Social Sciences Economics or related fields.
- At least 1–2 years relevant experience in monitoring, evaluation, or data management preferably with an NGO or humanitarian organization.
- Demonstrated experience in field data collection, community engagement, or operating feedback and complaints mechanisms.
- Good computer skills in (Excel, Kobo Toolbox, Power BI, SPSS, or other data analysis software). experience with data tools such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar is an asset.
- Familiarity with MEAL concepts (logframes, indicators, baselines, targets, accountability principles, learning) and humanitarian standards.

Role Purpose
The Community Health Worker Provider is responsible for the direct and effective implementation of the Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) and Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP). The role involves the accurate assessment, treatment, monitoring, and counselling of children (and pregnant/lactating women) suffering from acute malnutrition, ensuring adherence to national and international protocols to achieve successful recovery and prevent relapse.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Assessment and Admission
- Screening, Treatment, and Management
- Anthropometric Screening: Conduct thorough assessments (weight, height/length, MUAC, bilateral pitting edema) for all beneficiaries.
- Medical Screening: Assess for medical complications, \"danger signs,\" and evaluate appetite using the standard Appetite Test.
- Admissions/Discharges: Accurately apply admission and discharge criteria for OTP and SFP based on national guidelines.
- Documentation: Ensure proper registration of all beneficiaries in relevant registers and individual treatment cards.
- Ensure that all screenings, admissions, and discharges at OTP sites strictly follow the National Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) guidelines.
- OTP (SAM without complications): Provide RUTF based on weight/age and administer routine medications (antibiotics, deworming, Vitamin A, measles vaccination).
- TSFP (MAM): Provide Tom Brown/RUSF and conduct regular monitoring to prevent deterioration of SAM.
- Monitoring: Track weekly progress, identifying improvements, deterioration, or non-response.
- Referrals: Facilitate timely transfers to Stabilization Centers (SC) for complicated cases or those failing to respond to treatment.

- Stock Management: Monitor levels of RUTF, RUSF, and medications to prevent stock-outs.
- Storage: Ensure proper storage conditions to prevent spoilage or damage of nutritional commodities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or HND in Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Nursing, CHEW, or Clinical Medicine.
- Experience: 1–3 years of proven experience in direct CMAM/IMAM implementation.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with anthropometric measurements, appetite testing, and IYCF-E counselling.
- Contextual Knowledge: Prior experience in Maiduguri, Borno State, or similar humanitarian/emergency contexts is a significant advantage.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and local languages (e.g., Hausa, Kanuri) is highly desirable.
