    Community / Facility Assistant

    Overview

    • The Harmony Care Project aims to strengthens antenatal (ANC) and postnatal care (PNC) services through group-based care models in 15 healthcare facilities in Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
    • The project is a three-year initiative aimed at improving continuity of care, increasing uptake of recommended interventions, and enhancing client satisfaction.
    • The project supports the vision of healthier mothers and thriving children through quality, sustainable maternal healthcare delivery.
    • This position will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with community leaders, community health workers (CHWs), and health facilities to improve access to quality RMNCAH services.
    • S/he will also focus on enhancing demand creation activities, promoting healthy behaviors, and supporting the identification and referral of vulnerable populations thereby strengthening community-facility linkages for a seamless access to life-saving quality health services.

    Responsibilities

    • The Community and Facility Assistant will assist in the implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation of the project activities being implemented at the state level.
    • S/he will also focus on enhancing demand creation activities.
    • S/he will assist with the development of work plans, budgets, liaise with GoN stakeholders and implementing partners regarding implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the program.
    • S/he will support the QI Specialist to ensure that project activities are implemented according to approved implementation plan and accepted organizational methodologies and principles.
    • S/he will assist in the development of monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as human interest stories, bulletins, factsheets, technical briefs, abstracts and other relevant publication related to the project interventions.
    • The Community/facility Assistant will maintain files and support the dissemination of project information among the project team, schedule and support visitors and meetings.
    • S/he will assist with drafting, editing, and proofreading of technical materials and appropriate reports of program activities and results for technical leads and supervisors as requested.
    • S/he will work collaboratively with other project team members to ensure necessary project planning, resource availability and management activities function smoothly and efficiently.
    • S/he will be responsible for the collation, harmonization and regular updates of program management tools such as scorecard, stakeholders’ database, CUG database, adhoc database, facility directory and other tools as maybe be requested.
    • S/he will coordinate the planning of meetings, workshops, and brown bag sessions ensuring that all logistics arrangements are in place and ensure that meeting notes are taken and disseminated timely to all participants.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in implementing community-based MNCH programs in Nigeria.
    • Proven experience in working with Community Health Workers (CHWs), strengthening community health systems and building relationships with community leaders.
    • Strong understanding of RMNCAH challenges and opportunities in Nigeria. Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
    • 2-3 years of experience in programmatic support of international health projects
    • A broad variety of programmatic, administrative, financial, and computer skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Experience in coordinating donor funded projects and familiarity with international donor policies and administrative procedures
    • Proven track record of working with a project team composed of technical experts, program, and finance staff.
    • Fluency in verbal, written and interpersonal communication in English.
    • Fluency in any local language in the project State will be an advantage
    • Proficiency in writing and editing letters, reports, and documents.

    Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

    • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
    • Excellent presentation skills and verbal and written communications skills.
    • Previous experience working INGO.
    • Proficiency in word processing, Microsoft Office and data software.
    • Ability to travel 25% of time.

    Qualitative Research Assistant - Abuja & Dutse

    Overview

    • Jhpiego is implementing a Global Fund – Technical Assistance to conduct a gender analysis to inform GC8 grant writing and funding request and ensure gender responsiveness across all strategies. The gender analysis will focus on the integration of Sexual and Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH) with HIV, TB and Malaria (HTM) services.
    • The project aims to identify and examine factors- including gender norms, roles, and relations that influence access to and utilization of SRMNCAH and HTM services at community and facility levels in Anambra and Jigawa States.
    • The primary data collection phase requires the recruitment of Quantitative Research Assistants to support field data collection activities.

    Responsibilities
    The specific objectives of the gender analysis are to:

    • Identify factors - gender norms, roles, decision-making power, beliefs and practices - influencing access to and utilization of integrated Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH), HIV, TB, and malaria (HTM) services at community and facility levels in Nigeria.
    • Identify gender-specific barriers and enabling factors affecting equitable access to SRMNCAH, HIV, TB, or malaria services for women, adolescents, and vulnerable populations?
    • Document actionable gender-responsive opportunities and entry points for strengthening design and delivery of integrated SRMNCAH and HTM interventions.
    • Assess the roles, capacities, and coordination gaps among key stakeholders that affect the effective integration of SRMNCAH and HTM services.
    • The Qualitative Research Assistants will facilitate Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with program managers, civil society organizations (CSOs), community leaders, and other stakeholders, as well as Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with men, women, adolescents, and key populations across one LGA per senatorial district in Anambra and Jigawa States.

    Overall Responsibility:

    • Support the collection of high-quality qualitative data for the Gender Analysis Study across  three senatorial districts in each State.

    Specific Responsibilities:
    Working closely with the project team and field supervisors, you are to:

    • Participate in 2-day data collection training.
    • Participate in field testing the data collection tools in selected locations.
    • Screen, recruit and consent study participants in accordance with the study SOP or research protocol.
    • Conduct key informant interviews with program managers, CSOs, PPMVs, Community Leaders and other stakeholders at state level
    • Conduct focus group discussions with different groups such as male, female, adolescents and key population.
    • Notify the study team on any Severe Adverse Event, protocol deviation or any other ethical issues during the data collection process.
    • Ensure data security and keep custody of recording devices and smart phones.
    • Submit activity report as may be required
    • Regularly upload audio recordings to the Data Analyst for review and approval.
    • Handle and protect confidential and sensitive data with integrity in line with study standard operating procedures.

    Deliverables
    Your specific deliverables are:

    • Daily Activity report detailing work done on a centralized platform
    • Transcripts of interviews and FGDs conducted (Between 10 - 12)
    • Final activity report at the end of the job.

    Required Qualifications

    • Prior experience leading or supporting similar research projects is an advantage.
    • At least 2 years’ experience in stakeholder level engagement is desirable.
    • Experience in qualitative research methods are desirable.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are critical.
    • Good spoken and written English as well as local languages of the preferred state.
    • Experience with transcription of interviews
    • Experience facilitating discussions on gender, health, or sensitive community issues is an added advantage.
    • Experience with interviewing key population (FSW, PWID etc.)

    Total Number of Days:

    • 10 non-consecutive days within a period of 1 month (specific dates for data collection will be communicated)

    Reimbursable Expenses:

    • There will be no reimbursable expenses under this consultancy as expected expenses to be incurred have been covered in the consultancy fees.
    • However, transportation and communication allowances will be provided

    Terms of Consultancy:

    • You are to submit complete data collected to the GF Gender Analysis team as you will be instructed daily. In addition, a detailed report of your work will be required to process your payment including activity log sheet, invoice, transcripts and other deliverables.

    Data Analyst

    Overview

    • S/He will analyze key informant interviews, focus group discussions and survey data using the Jhpiego gender analysis framework.
    • The consultant will also be responsible for report writing based on guidance provided by the team.

    Overall Responsibility :

    • Analyze qualitative data for the gender analysis Study. The Data Analyst will report to the Project Director, while working closely with other study team members.

    Specific Responsibilities:
    Working closely with the project team and field supervisors, you are to: 

    • Code transcripts from key informant interviews with CSOs, Community Leaders, Program Managers, PPMVs, National Stakeholders, focus group discussion with key population, men, women, adolescent girls and young women.
    • Analyze quantitative data, ensuring age disaggregation, sex and geographical diversity as applicable.
    • Produce report of study findings
    • Participate in pre/post-data analysis meeting
    • Handle and protect confidential and sensitive data with integrity in line with study standard operating procedures.
    • Carry out any other assigned tasks.

    Deliverables
    Your specific deliverables are:

    • Codebook (total transcripts to be coded = 55 KIIs and 8 FGDs)
    • Frequency tables
    • Study report

    Required Qualifications

    • MSc in Sociology, MPH, Medical or Health Sciences Research is required.
    • Prior experience in Gender Analysis
    • 5 – 10 years’ Experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis
    • Maternal health programs or related experience
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are critical.
    • Good spoken and written English
