Job Description

• We are looking for an Associate Application Security Engineer to join our Application Security Team; which provides intelligence on hacking of M-KOPA devices that in turn helps us strengthen and expand the digital and financial inclusion of our customers.
• As an Engineer, you will be providing support and testing M-KOPA devices for security flaws, particularly mobile phones. Physically performing hardware vulnerability reviews of M-KOPA mobiles, IoT and automotive devices, writing custom Proof-of-Concept code and carrying out internal penetration testing against applications and assisting with internal red teaming engagements.

Overview

• This role would involve learning and conducting in-depth hardware penetration testing, particularly for Android mobile, iOS, and embedded systems.
• Additionally, you would be assisting in the identification and discovery of hardware zero-day vulnerabilities in a range of mobile devices, applications, and the underlying kernels through hardware fuzzing, software fuzzing, and low-level reverse engineering.

Expertise

• Our expectation is that you have fundamental knowledge of Android applications, IoT devices and hardware hacking, with proper understanding of firmware architectures, mobile operating systems and low-level memory interfaces such a JTAG, UFS and eMMC.
• If you have experience with penetration testing / red teaming engagements, with an excellent knowledge of the Linux OS, kernel, virtualization technologies and can use a multitude of tools, from logical analyzers and oscilloscopes, to soldering irons and custom boards to access low level microprocessors and exploit challenging systems, then this might just be the role for you.
• We are particularly interested in a background / experience with hardware hacking, phone hacking or phone security.

Additional Information:

• This role is fully remote, within the following time zone (UTC -1 / UTC+3). Our engineers work remotely from locations such as the UK, Europe and Africa.
• You will be reporting to the Senior Application Security Engineer and working with a diverse team from across the globe.

• You will be working in a small 3 or 4 person team role focused on Dimensional Data modelling, Data Engineering, Business and Product Optimization, Cloud Platform Utilization and Data Management.
• You will collaborate primarily with cross-functional product teams with some additional internal business units to gather requirements, understand business needs, and deliver data-driven recommendations.

More About the Role

• Your day-to-day work will include building easy to understand and consistently modelled datasets to serve metrics, dashboards and exploratory analysis; including building data transformation pipelines, primarily by using SQL and Python in dbt, and Airflow infrastructure.
• We also develop semantic models in Looker, build dashboards and coach users on how to use self-serve capabilities of our platform.
• You will be working together with software engineers to ensure that the data necessary for analysis is captured well in our systems.
• For us applying best practices is important in order to build reliable, well tested, efficient, documented data assets.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Python or other language, and SQL
• Dimensional data modelling for analytics / data warehouses / big data infrastructures
• Experience working with data warehouses technologies, and with BI tools such as Looker or Tableau
• Experience working with orchestration systems such as airflow
• Experience working with dbt will be highly beneficial

• M-KOPA is positioned to lead the African e-Mobility financing sector and as the Head of Product, you will be part of this objective.
• We're looking for a blend of technical product management experience, strategy and analytics experience.
• You will be based in Nairobi or be able to travel there frequently and will report to Managing Director of M-KOPA Mobility.

Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be expected to:

• Know all things electric mobility - from battery supply chains to battery management system AI algorithms to future price curves to electric charger types to manufacturing assembly tax benefits
• Be a key leader in defining the product strategic direction of M-KOPA's electric mobility business
• Design, run, and iterate M-KOPA's electric vehicle and electric charging / swapping tests and feed that input back into product evolution
• Manage M-KOPA's electric vehicle, charging infrastructure, and supply chain partners

Key Details:

• Location: Ideally Nairobi, Kenya - but other locations possible with frequent travel
• Travel: Moderate travel to/within Kenya, and other locations where supply chain partners operate (Africa, India, China, Taiwan, etc)

Requirements
Your application should include:

• Evidence of Data Driven Product Development and management
• Successful collaborations with cross-functional team members
• Experience working closely with external stakeholders such as supply chain partners
• Technical experience with products involving electric vehicles and/or lithium ion batteries and/or EV battery management systems and/or finance lease software systems.

You might be a good fit if:

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working as a Head of Product or Sr. Product manager
• Priority will be given to those with deep technical experience with products involving electric vehicles and/or lithium ion batteries and/or EV battery management systems and/or finance lease software systems.
• Priority will be given to those with market experience in the markets M-KOPA operates in
• You are passionate about products and product management and leading product teams
• You are passionate about electric mobility and lithium-ion batteries and engaging with motorbike drivers, riders and EV companies
• You understand and appreciate the power of credit financing for underbanked populations
• You have experience building electric mobility products and services
• You thrive equally as well in the field engaging with and running customer tests as you do in the Board room reporting on key metrics and building long-term strategy
