    Assistant Teacher

    Job Summary

    • The Assistant Teacher at Discovering Talents Academy (DTA) plays a vital supportive role in the classroom, working closely with the Class Teacher to create a nurturing, engaging, and effective learning environment.
    • This position is crucial in facilitating the implementation of DTA's core mission to "create an atmosphere of fun where kids can enjoy being kids" and its vision to "discover and bring out the uniqueness in every child."
    • The Assistant Teacher will assist in delivering the curriculum, providing individualized support to pupils, and ensuring the smooth daily operation of the classroom, all while upholding DTA's SHRID niche (Skill Acquisition, Handwriting, Reading, Individualized Teaching, Diction).

    Key Responsibilities
    Classroom Support & Instruction:

    • Assist the Class Teacher in preparing and organizing teaching materials, learning aids, and classroom displays.
    • Support the delivery of lessons by working with small groups of students or providing one-on-one assistance under the guidance of the Class Teacher.
    • Help reinforce learning concepts, particularly in areas related to Handwriting(Nelson Handwriting), Reading(fostering a "Love for Reading"), and Diction.
    • Assist in managing classroom activities and transitions, ensuring a structured and productive learning atmosphere.
    • Support the integration of Skill Acquisition activities into daily routines.

    Student Welfare & Engagement:

    • Provide attentive care and supervision to pupils, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
    • Assist with student needs, including personal care (e.g., restroom breaks for younger pupils), meal times, and managing belongings.
    • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their participation, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning.
    • Observe and report on student progress, behavior, and any concerns to the Class Teacher.
    • Support individualized teaching approaches by assisting students with diverse learning needs.

    Classroom Management & Environment:

    • Help maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom environment.
    • Assist in preparing the classroom for daily activities and tidying up at the end of the day.
    • Ensure classroom resources and equipment are properly managed and cared for.
    • Support the implementation of classroom rules and positive behavior management strategies.

    Communication & Collaboration:

    • Maintain open and effective communication with the Class Teacher regarding student progress and classroom needs.
    • Collaborate with other staff members (e.g., Caregivers, other Assistant Teachers) to ensure seamless school operations.
    • Adhere to DTA's communication protocols and maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
    • Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.

    Adherence to School Policies:

    • Strictly adhere to all DTA policies and procedures, including those related to punctuality, dress code, safety, and ethical conduct.
    • Uphold the professional standards and values of Discovering Talents Academy at all times.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Minimum of a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or a Diploma in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field. A Bachelor's Degree is an added advantage.
    • Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational or care setting is preferred.
    • Knowledge: Basic understanding of child development, learning processes, and classroom dynamics. Familiarity with DTA's Vision, Mission, and SHRID Niche is a plus.
    • Skills:Strong interpersonal and communication skills, patience, adaptability, and a genuine love for working with children.
    • Technological Proficiency: Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn school-specific software.

    Literacy Teacher

    Job Summary

    • The Literacy Teacher at Discovering Talents Academy (DTA) is responsible for delivering engaging and effective literacy instruction to primary school pupils.
    • This role involves fostering a deep understanding of reading, writing, and language arts, developing critical thinking skills, and nurturing a lifelong love for literature.
    • The Literacy Teacher plays a crucial part in upholding DTA's mission to "create an atmosphere of fun where kids can enjoy being kids" and its vision to "discover and bring out the uniqueness in every child," by ensuring individualized teaching and promoting academic excellence within the SHRID niche, particularly focusing on Handwriting, Reading, and Diction.

    Key Responsibilities
    Instructional Delivery & Curriculum Implementation:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging literacy lessons in accordance with DTA's blended British-Nigerian curriculum and academic standards.
    • Implement DTA's SHRID niche, particularly focusing on:
      • Fostering a profound "Love for Reading"through diverse texts and engaging reading programs.
      • Ensuring consistent implementation of Nelson Handwriting for legibility and neatness.
      • Promoting correct Diction and articulate communication among pupils.
      • Applying Individualized Teachin gstrategies to cater to diverse learning styles and needs in literacy.
      • Integrating Skill Acquisition in areas such as comprehension, phonics, grammar, and creative writing.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technology to make literacy accessible and enjoyable for all pupils.
    • Set clear learning objectives and provide constructive feedback to students to support their progress in all aspects of literacy.
    • Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations, including literacy components of entrance examinations.

    Assessment & Reporting:

    • Design and administer fair, valid, and reliable assessments (tests, quizzes, continuous assessments) to evaluate student understanding and progress in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
    • Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps, inform instructional adjustments, and provide targeted support to students.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, performance, and grades in literacy.
    • Prepare comprehensive progress reports for parents, highlighting academic achievements and areas for development in literacy.

    Classroom Management & Environment:

    • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment conducive to literacy exploration and learning.
    • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure an orderly and respectful learning atmosphere.
    • Encourage active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative activities (e.g., group reading, peer editing).
    • Ensure the classroom is well-resourced with diverse reading materials and tools to support literacy instruction.

    Student Welfare & Support:

    • Monitor the academic and social-emotional well-being of students, identifying and addressing any concerns promptly.
    • Provide individualized support and interventions for students who require additional assistance in literacy development.
    • Collaborate with parents, support staff, and other teachers to ensure holistic development and address student needs.
    • Serve as a Form Tutor/Class Teacher as assigned, overseeing general welfare and academic progress of a designated class, which may include teaching other subjects.

    Professional Development & Collaboration:

    • Actively participate in departmental meetings, school-wide professional development sessions, and training programs, particularly those related to literacy and language arts.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, develop curriculum materials, and enhance the overall academic program.
    • Contribute to school events and activities, such as Spelling Bee competitions and reading clubs, as required.
    • Utilize the DTA software for academic tracking, communication, and appraisal processes.

    Policy Adherence:

    • Strictly adhere to all DTA policies and procedures, including those related to punctuality, dress code, safety, and ethical conduct.
    • Uphold the professional standards and values of Discovering Talents Academy at all times.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor's Degree in English Education, Literature, Linguistics, Primary Education with a specialization in Literacy, or a related field with a strong emphasis on language arts pedagogy. A Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) is an added advantage.
    • Experience: Minimum of [e.g., 2-4] years of proven experience teaching Literacy/English Language Arts at the primary school level. Experience with a blended British-Nigerian curriculum is a plus.
    • Subject Matter Expertise: Strong knowledge of primary school literacy curriculum, phonics, reading strategies, grammar, writing processes, and children's literature.
    • Technological Proficiency: Proficient in using educational technology, interactive whiteboards, and relevant software for teaching literacy. Experience with school management software (e.g., DTA software) is an advantage.
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex language concepts clearly and concisely, and model correct diction.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
