JOINT INITIATIVE for DEVELOPMENT (JID) is a Non-profit, youth-led and focused organization run by young people between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. The organization is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a Non Governmental Organization.
The organization is formed from the... read more need to inspire young persons and indeed citizens to get involved in the community development process. We are of the opinion that a community can not be effectively developed by isolating its constituents. This has therefore formed our assertion that the involvement of community dwellers in the community development process will aid the development of such community.
We equally believe that the participation of community dwellers in the community development process is a catalyst in ensuring accountability in the community fulfilling the phrase "People, Power, Participation”. Government can not provide all citizens’ needs thus the need for citizens to participate actively in the process of governance.
With less than 2 years to the deadline of meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the challenges of meeting future and humanitarian concerns, there is a great need to collectively find a solution to the rapid changes grappling our world today; from poverty and hunger to diseases, natural disasters, war and economic challenges.
As young persons, we have heeded the advice of Mahatma Gandhi, "Be the change you want to see in the world” and this is the reason we are existing today.
