Van Sales Representative at Sigma Consult

About the Role

• We are seeking a highly motivated, target-driven, and customer-focused Van Sales Representative to join a leading Food & Beverage Manufacturing company in Ota, Ogun State. 
• The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales growth, managing assigned distribution routes, building strong customer relationships, and ensuring timely product availability across retail outlets within the assigned territory.
• The ideal candidate must possess extensive knowledge of the Ota distribution routes, have proven experience in van sales within the FMCG industry, and demonstrate excellent selling, negotiation, and route management skills.
• Candidates must possess a valid driver's licence and be confident driving commercial sales vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development:

• Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets across assigned territories.
• Drive sales and distribution of the company's bottled water, carbonated soft drinks, energy drinks, fruit juices, malt beverages, ready-to-drink beverages, and other product lines.
• Identify new sales opportunities and onboard new retail, wholesale, and distributor accounts.
• Maximize product penetration and market coverage within assigned routes.
• Execute effective merchandising strategies to improve product visibility and availability.
• Increase market share through consistent customer engagement and excellent service delivery.
• Promote new product launches and seasonal campaigns to customers.

Route & Territory Management:

• Manage assigned sales routes efficiently to maximize daily productivity.
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the Ota, Ogun State market and surrounding distribution routes.
• Plan daily call schedules to optimize customer visits and deliveries.
• Monitor competitor activities, pricing, and promotional initiatives within the territory.
• Identify underserved locations and recommend route expansion opportunities.
• Customer Relationship Management:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with retailers, wholesalers, supermarkets, distributors, and key accounts.
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through prompt order fulfilment and professional service.
• Resolve customer complaints promptly while maintaining positive business relationships.
• Provide regular product information and promotional updates to customers.

Order Management & Collections:

• Generate customer orders accurately and ensure timely product deliveries.
• Collect payments in accordance with company policies where applicable.
• Reconcile daily sales, collections, invoices, and inventory records.
• Prepare accurate daily sales reports, route reports, and customer visit reports.

Vehicle & Inventory Management:

• Safely operate and maintain the assigned sales van.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance issues.
• Ensure products are properly loaded, transported, and delivered in good condition.
• Maintain accurate stock accountability throughout each sales trip.
• Prevent stock losses, shortages, and product damage.

Compliance & Reporting:

• Adhere to company sales policies, operational procedures, and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate sales documentation and route records.
• Submit daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance reports.
• Ensure compliance with company financial and inventory control procedures.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance will be measured against:

• Achievement of monthly and annual sales targets.
• Growth in active customer accounts and territory coverage.
• Product availability and market penetration within assigned routes.
• Daily route completion and productivity levels.
• Customer retention and satisfaction ratings.
• Timely collection of customer payments.
• Accuracy of sales reports and inventory reconciliation.

• Safe operation and proper maintenance of the assigned sales vehicle.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum of OND, HND, or Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Sales, or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years' proven experience as a Van Sales Representative within the FMCG or Beverage Manufacturing industry is mandatory.
• Demonstrated experience selling bottled water, soft drinks, beverages, or other fast-moving consumer goods.
• Must possess a valid Nigerian Driver's Licence with excellent driving skills.
• Strong knowledge of Ota, Ogun State, and surrounding distribution routes is compulsory.
• Excellent understanding of retail distribution, route-to-market strategies, and territory management.
• Proven track record of consistently achieving sales targets.
• Strong negotiation, persuasion, and customer relationship management skills.
• Ability to manage cash collections, invoices, and stock reconciliation accurately.
• Good numerical and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Physically fit and capable of handling delivery activities where necessary.
• High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
• Must reside in Ota, Ogun State, or nearby locations, or be willing to relocate.
