The Underwriter for SME lending will be responsible for evaluating loan applications from SMEs, Personal Loans and determining the risk associated with each proposal. You will analyze financial data, assess applicants’ creditworthiness, and make informed recommendations to ensure sound lending decisions.
In this role, you will
Analyze loan applications and supporting documentation to determine eligibility and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate applicants’ financial histories, credit reports, and collateral to assess risk levels and make informed underwriting decisions.
Approve or deny loan applications based on thorough analysis and risk assessment. Recommend alternative financing solutions where appropriate.
Work closely with loan officers, credit analysts, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and clarify any issues related to applications.
Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of underwriting decisions, including rationale and any conditions for approval.
Stay updated on market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively with applicants regarding underwriting decisions, required documentation, and any follow-up actions needed.
We are looking for people with
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CIB, ACIB) are a plus.
3+ years of experience in underwriting SMEs or credit analysis within the banking or financial services sector in Nigeria.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in evaluating financial statements and credit reports.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards in the Nigerian banking sector.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
