    Telephone Technician

    Summary:

    The U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Telephone Technician position in the Diplomatic Technology O0ffice. The U.S. Mission in Nigeria supports Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA). All genders are welcome to apply.

    Duties

    This position is responsible for the configuration, programming and repair of all telephone related equipment for multiple agencies utilized within U.S Embassy Abuja and its tail sites. Job holder is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all telephone related equipment in use by the Department of State and its tenant agencies. The incumbent will serve as liaison on issues involving local telephone service providers. The incumbent assists with programming and installation of VHF/HF Radios and service as backup Radio Technician.

    Education Requirements: At least two years of college/university studies is required.

    Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of progressive work experience in the repair, installation and maintenance of telephone systems and associated software applications is required. This must also include electrical and structured cabling for telephone systems

    Job Knowledge: 

    Knowledge of the various telecommunication network systems in the host country is required. Experience in Nortel/Avaya, Cisco, Panasonic, VoIP systems, and Local Area Networking is required. Incumbent must have knowledge of how telecommunication voice and data signaling enters the building; how wiring is arranged on a punch down block; ability to test and correct faulty circuits. Knowledge of telephone procedures to operate a telephone switchboard and other alternative routing skills is required.

    Skills And Abilities: 

    Incumbent must be well organized and able to work independently to resolve stressful and unforeseen situations. Must be adaptable to new environments and establish effective solutions to technical and administrative issues. Communication effectively with other technicians and logistic personnel is required. Must be able to utilize and maintain a wide range of test equipment and use a myriad of hand and power tools. The job holder must have a valid Nigeria driver license and held a driver’s license for at least five years.

    Must have good computer and general keyboard skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Must have good interpersonal relationship with individual as a customer services provider. Must have good understanding of basic leadership and good customer services. Must be able to complete minor radio request including reprogramming handheld radio and issuing new radios to customers when service as backup radio tech. Must be able to lift a minimum weight of 20lb of equipment or tools.
