The Site Engineer is responsible for providing day-to-day technical and engineering oversight on construction projects.
Working under the direction of the Project Manager, the role ensures that works are executed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and programme requirements, while upholding quality, health & safety, and environmental standards on site.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret and implement engineering drawings, specifications, and method statements on site.
Supervise subcontractors and site operatives to ensure works are carried out safely and to the required quality.
Conduct setting-out activities and verify dimensional accuracy of works against design drawings.
Monitor construction progress against the programme and report variances to the Project Manager.
Carry out and record site inspections, quality checks, and snagging activities.
Assist in preparing and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
Maintain accurate site records including diaries, daily allocation sheets, and material deliveries.
Coordinate with design teams, consultants, and statutory authorities as required.
Support the management of materials, plant, and resources to minimise waste and delay.
Identify and escalate technical issues or design queries through the RFI process.
Qualifications & Skills
Degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related construction discipline.
Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in a site-based engineering role.
Proficiency in setting-out equipment (total station, GPS, level) and CAD/BIM software.
Working knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. BS EN, Eurocode, NHBC/LABC guidelines).
CSCS card (at minimum Skilled Worker level) and SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
Strong communication and organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
