Weld and repair farm machinery and implements, including tractors, irrigation equipment, and heavy-duty tools.
Fabricate metal structures for research facilities (screenhouses, greenhouses, irrigation frames, trial plot fencing).
Measure, cut and prepare metal materials according to design specifications.
Employ appropriate welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick welding, arc welding, gas welding, etc.) to produce strong, precise, and safe welds.
Carry out preventative maintenance on welded structures to ensure long-term durability and reduce replacement costs.
Maintain safe working conditions and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Keep accurate daily records of welding and fabrication activities, including materials used and labor hours (to support cost-recovery tracking).
Provide input to equipment investment plans by reporting recurring fabrication/repair needs.
Train and guide junior welders or casual staff on proper welding techniques and safety practices.
Perform any other job-related tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION:
HND/BSc in Agricultural Engineering, Welding/ Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering, or any other related course. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of Five (5) years’ experience in performing similar role in a well-structured environment.
Professional certification/ Training in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g. NEBOSH, OSHA, or Nigerian equivalent) is desirable.
COMPETENCIES:
The ideal candidate must:
Be skilled in MIG, TIG, stick, and gas welding techniques.
Have the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans.
Possess strong knowledge of metals, alloys, and welding consumables.
Have experience with CNC cutting or advanced metalworking tools.
Demonstrate knowledge of and strict adherence to workplace safety standards, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of welding and fabrication equipment.
Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Have experience working with ERP systems or work order tracking software.
