Role Purpose
The Senior Accountant shall be responsible for strengthening YMDCL’s financial management, accounting systems, internal controls, project accounting, investor financial documentation and fund accountability.
The role is intended to support YMDCL’s operations across several mineral value chains, including gold, limestone, gypsum, kaolin, trona, bentonite, clay/shale, manganese, copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, rare earth minerals and other strategic mineral opportunities being explored or developed by the Company.
The Senior Accountant shall ensure proper recording, monitoring and reporting of revenues, expenditures, project costs, development funds, mineral proceeds, grants, counterpart funding, investor-related financial information, procurement payments, statutory obligations and financial performance using Tally accounting software or any other approved accounting platform adopted by the Company.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Maintain accurate books of accounts for YMDCL in line with approved accounting standards, Company policies and statutory requirements.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for Management and Board consideration.
- Record all income, expenditure, receivables, payables, advances, imprest, retirements, project costs and bank transactions.
- Prepare management accounts showing income, expenditure, budget performance, cash position, liabilities, commitments and project-level financial status.
- Support the preparation of annual financial statements and audit schedules.
- Ensure all accounting records are complete, traceable, properly filed and available for audit and Board review.
- Maintain a reliable chart of accounts that reflects YMDCL’s mineral projects, departments, funding sources, cost centres and revenue streams.
Tally Software and Accounting System Management
- Set up, maintain and update YMDCL’s accounting records on Tally software.
- Configure Tally to capture project-based accounting, mineral-based cost centres, fund accounts, bank accounts, imprest accounts, advances and budget lines.
- Ensure all transactions are posted promptly and accurately into Tally.
- Generate financial reports from Tally for Management, Board, auditors, investors and development partners where required.
- Maintain proper backup of accounting data and ensure data security.
- Train and guide relevant finance staff on proper use of Tally and approved accounting procedures.
- Ensure that manual records, bank statements, payment vouchers and Tally entries are regularly reconciled.
Mineral Operations and Project Accounting
- Maintain separate project accounts for each major mineral project or investment opportunity.
- Track exploration, drilling, geological studies, feasibility studies, mine planning, processing, logistics, stockpiling and community engagement costs.
- Maintain cost records for mineral titles, including annual service fees, renewal costs, statutory payments, consultancy expenses and regulatory payments.
- Support financial tracking for gold formalisation, buying, processing, beneficiation, mineral sales and revenue sharing arrangements.
- Maintain financial records for limestone, gypsum, kaolin, trona, copper, gold and other mineral development projects.
- Track cost of mining equipment, processing equipment, logistics, fuel, spare parts, site operations and security-related expenditures.
- Support the preparation of mineral production cost reports, including cost per tonne, cost per gram, processing cost, transport cost and stockpile cost where applicable.
- Maintain records of mineral inventory, stockpile value, mineral sales proceeds and receivables from offtakers or buyers.
- Work with technical teams to reconcile production records with financial records.
Development Fund and Special Project Fund Management
The Senior Accountant shall support proper financial administration of any development fund, take-off grant, project fund, intervention fund, counterpart fund, investor fund, mineral development fund or special purpose account under the custody or administration of YMDCL.
- Maintain separate ledgers for each fund or special account.
- Ensure that funds are applied strictly for approved purposes.
- Prepare fund utilisation reports for Management, Board, Government, development partners or relevant authorities.
- Track releases, disbursements, commitments, balances and outstanding obligations.
- Ensure all payments are supported by approvals, memos, vouchers, invoices, receipts and retirement documents.
- Monitor compliance with approved budgets, Board resolutions and government directives.
- Support transparent reporting on funds applied to exploration, mineral development, ASM support, infrastructure, processing facilities, equipment, project studies and investor-readiness activities.
- Prepare periodic fund accountability statements for Board and Management review.
Investor Engagement and Financial Due Diligence Support
- Prepare financial information required for investor data rooms.
- Support the preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, financial summaries and cash flow projections for mineral projects.
- Provide financial inputs into business plans, bankable feasibility studies, concept notes, investment proposals and Board submissions.
- Support financial assessment of MoUs, joint ventures, offtake arrangements, consultancy contracts and partnership proposals.
- Maintain records of investor-related financial assumptions, project cost breakdowns, revenue estimates and funding requirements.
- Support the review of financial capacity documents submitted by investors, partners, contractors and consultants.
- Work with the Business Development and Corporate Services Department to prepare investor-ready financial documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality over all investor, financial, technical and commercial information.
Budgeting, Planning and Cost Control
- Support preparation of YMDCL’s annual budget and departmental budgets.
- Monitor budget implementation and report variances.
- Prepare budget performance reports for Management and Board review.
- Ensure project expenditures are linked to approved budgets, Board approvals and procurement plans.
- Track commitments, liabilities and outstanding payments.
- Advise Management on cost control measures without compromising strategic project delivery.
- Support preparation of monthly cash flow forecasts and funding requirement schedules.
- Maintain cost control records for consultancy contracts, procurement, logistics, project operations and staff-related expenses.
Banking, Treasury and Cash Management
- Support effective management of the Company’s bank accounts.
- Prepare bank reconciliation statements on a monthly basis or as required.
- Monitor cash balances, inflows, outflows and payment obligations.
- Ensure proper documentation of all bank transactions, transfers, deposits and withdrawals.
- Maintain records of signatories, bank mandates, Board resolutions relating to accounts and approved payment processes.
- Support safe handling of cash, imprest and petty cash in line with Company policy.
- Monitor receivables from mineral sales, investors, partners, government releases and other income sources.
- Ensure prompt retirement of advances and imprest.
Procurement, Contract and Payment Control
- Review payment requests to ensure they are supported by approvals, invoices, delivery notes, contract documents, certificates, memos and other relevant documents.
- Confirm that payments are in line with approved procurement processes and budget provisions.
- Maintain contractor, consultant and supplier payment records.
- Track contract sums, payments made, outstanding balances and retention where applicable.
- Support financial evaluation of bids, quotations and procurement submissions.
- Ensure that mobilisation, milestone and final payments are supported by proper documentation.
- Work with Procurement and Technical Teams to confirm delivery, completion or certification before payment.
- Maintain a register of contracts with financial obligations.
Tax, Statutory Compliance and Audit Support
- Support compliance with applicable tax, pension, payroll and statutory obligations.
- Prepare schedules for PAYE, withholding tax, VAT, pension and other statutory deductions where applicable.
- Ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions as approved by Management.
- Support external audit, internal audit and any government or regulatory financial review.
- Maintain audit files, schedules and supporting documents.
- Respond to audit queries in consultation with the Head of Finance/Accounts and Management.
- Support compliance with CAMA-related financial reporting obligations and Board-approved governance procedures.
- Ensure that financial records are maintained in a manner that protects the Company from avoidable penalties, audit qualifications or reputational exposure.
Revenue, Mineral Sales and Receivables Management
- Maintain records of all revenue sources of the Company.
- Track proceeds from mineral sales, offtake arrangements, processing services, consultancy recoveries, royalties, grants, government releases and other income.
- Prepare reconciliation of mineral sales quantities, rates, invoices, receipts and bank inflows.
- Work with technical and operations teams to reconcile mineral production records with financial records.
- Maintain receivables schedules and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Support transparent reporting of revenue-sharing arrangements, especially where communities, government, LGAs or other stakeholders are involved.
- Ensure that revenue records are supported by invoices, receipts, sales agreements, weighbridge records, assay reports or other relevant documentation.

Required Qualifications
- A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
- Professional qualification or student membership of ICAN, ANAN, ACCA or any recognised accounting body will be an added advantage.
- Practical knowledge of Tally accounting software is required.
- Knowledge of project accounting, fund accounting, public-sector finance, mining finance or development finance will be an added advantage.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Excel, financial reporting tools and digital record management.
Required Experience
- Minimum of five years’ relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Practical experience in preparing management accounts, bank reconciliations, budgets and audit schedules.
- Experience using Tally or similar accounting software.
- Experience in project accounting, donor/development fund accounting, public-sector finance, mining, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, logistics or regulated industries will be an added advantage.
- Experience supporting audits, procurement payments, contract payments and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing financial information for Management, Board, investors or development partners will be desirable.

Confidentiality and Ethics
The Senior Accountant shall maintain strict confidentiality over all financial, investor, mineral, project, personnel, Board and commercial information obtained in the course of duty.
The officer shall not disclose, manipulate, conceal or misuse Company financial information, mineral sales records, bank information, investor documents, procurement records, payroll information or development fund records.
The officer shall avoid conflict of interest and shall not accept gifts, commissions, inducements or benefits from contractors, suppliers, investors, buyers, consultants or any person dealing with the Company.
Authority and Limits
The Senior Accountant may prepare financial reports, process accounting entries, verify supporting documents, prepare reconciliations and make recommendations.
However, the officer shall not approve payments, commit the Company financially, alter approved budgets, authorise bank transfers, engage investors, sign contracts or release confidential financial documents unless expressly authorised by Management or the Board.
