    Job Summary

    We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee key accounting functions and support the financial management of the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, managing reconciliations, supporting budgeting and forecasting, ensuring statutory compliance, and providing reliable financial information to management for decision-making.

    The ideal candidate should have strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with other departments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee and maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
    • Perform and review bank, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations.
    • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
    • Review invoices, payment requests, receipts, expenses, and other financial transactions for accuracy and compliance.
    • Monitor cash flow, income, expenses, receivables, and payables.
    • Prepare and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
    • Analyze financial performance and provide insights and recommendations to management.
    • Ensure timely recording and reconciliation of all financial transactions.
    • Monitor outstanding customer balances and supplier obligations.
    • Coordinate month-end and year-end closing activities.
    • Maintain and review the general ledger and ensure proper account classification.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, company policies, and financial controls.
    • Assist with tax computations, filings, and other statutory financial obligations.
    • Coordinate internal and external audit activities and provide required documentation.
    • Identify accounting discrepancies, investigate variances, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records.
    • Monitor and strengthen internal financial controls to minimize errors, fraud, and financial risks.
    • Assist with payroll accounting and verification where applicable.
    • Support inventory and asset reconciliation and reporting.
    • Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and proper financial procedures.
    • Supervise, guide, and review the work of junior accounting staff where applicable.
    • Perform other finance and accounting duties assigned by management.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a structured organization.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliation procedures.
    • Good understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and financial analysis.
    • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end closing.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
    • Experience using accounting software or ERP systems such as Sage, QuickBooks, Odoo, SAP, or similar platforms.
    • Knowledge of applicable Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
    • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
    • Ability to work independently and also lead or support a finance team.

    Professional Qualifications

    • ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification is strongly preferred.
    • Candidates who are partly qualified or actively pursuing a recognized professional accounting qualification may also be considered.
