Renewable Energy Engineer – Solar PV & Electrical Systems at Puffin Group LTD

About the Role

You will lead and support the design, installation oversight, commissioning, and optimization of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial, industrial, and community projects. This hands-on role involves working directly on-sites across the country, to ensure high-quality, compliant, and high-performance solar deployments in Nigeria’s dynamic energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design complete solar PV systems, including array layout, DC/AC electrical schematics, inverter selection/configuration, mounting structures, and balance-of-system components
• Size and integrate inverters (string, hybrid, off-grid), charge controllers, batteries, transformers, and grid-tie/hybrid setups
• Perform site surveys, shading analysis, energy yield predictions (using PVsyst, HelioScope, or similar), and system sizing for Nigerian conditions (high irradiance, dust, temperature variations)
• Conduct electrical load analysis, short-circuit/protection studies, and ensure compliance with Nigerian Electrical Standards, SON regulations etc
• Prepare technical drawings, permit documentation, and interconnection applications for REA-funded or utility-linked projects
• Support installation teams during deployment, troubleshoot issues, and oversee commissioning and performance testing
• Collaborate with sales, procurement, project managers, and clients to deliver projects on time and within budget
• Monitor system performance post-installation and recommend upgrades or maintenance improvements
• Keep abreast of local market trends, new inverter technologies (e.g., hybrid models popular in Nigeria), and solar policies

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field (Master’s an advantage)
• 3–7+ years of hands-on experience in solar PV system design, installation, and engineering (commercial/industrial scale preferred; Nigerian experience highly valued)
• Strong practical knowledge of solar inverters (e.g., Deye, Growatt, Victron, SMA, or similar brands common in Nigeria), electrical systems, wiring, and grid/off-grid integration
• Proficiency in solar design software (PVsyst, HelioScope, AutoCAD Electrical) and MS Office
• Ability to conduct fieldwork and travel across Nigeria as needed
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
