    Radiographer

    Job Summary

    • The Radiographer is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures, producing high-quality radiographic images, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining compliance with radiation protection standards.
    • The Radiographer shall work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to support accurate diagnosis and effective patient care.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities
    Diagnostic Imaging:

    • Perform diagnostic imaging examinations including X-rays and other imaging procedures within the scope of practice.
    • Ensure proper patient positioning and image acquisition techniques.
    • Produce high-quality diagnostic images for accurate interpretation.
    • Verify imaging requests and patient identification before procedures.

    Patient Care:

    • Explain imaging procedures to patients and obtain their cooperation.
    • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, dignity, and safety throughout examinations.
    • Monitor patients during procedures and respond appropriately to emergencies.
    • Maintain professional and compassionate interactions with patients and their relatives.

    Radiation Safety:

    • Adhere strictly to radiation safety regulations and ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) principles.
    • Utilize appropriate radiation protection devices and techniques.
    • Ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors within the imaging environment.
    • Maintain radiation monitoring records where applicable.

    Equipment Management:

    • Operate imaging equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Conduct routine equipment quality checks and report faults immediately.
    • Ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of imaging equipment and work areas.
    • Participate in equipment calibration and quality assurance activities.

    Documentation and Record Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation.
    • Ensure proper storage and retrieval of radiographic images.
    • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements.
    • Complete all departmental reports and records promptly.

    Quality Assurance:

    • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
    • Follow established clinical protocols and standard operating procedures.
    • Maintain high standards of service delivery and professionalism.

    Team Collaboration:

    • Work effectively with Radiologists, Physicians, Nurses, Laboratory Scientists, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, trainings, and continuing professional development activities.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    The Radiographer's performance shall be evaluated based on:

    • Quality and accuracy of diagnostic images.
    • Compliance with radiation safety standards.
    • Patient satisfaction levels.
    • Timeliness of service delivery.
    • Accuracy of documentation and record keeping.
    • Equipment handling and maintenance.
    • Attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct.

    Qualifications and Requirements
    Educational Qualification:

    • Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc.) or equivalent qualification in Radiography from a recognized institution.

    Professional Requirements:

    • Must possess a valid and current practicing license issued by the appropriate regulatory authority.
    • Must be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN).
    • Evidence of annual license renewal is mandatory.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 1–3 years of practical experience in diagnostic radiography is preferred.
    • Experience in a diagnostic center or hospital environment is an advantage.

    Required Skills and Competencies:

    • Excellent knowledge of radiographic procedures and imaging techniques.
    • Strong understanding of radiation protection and safety standards.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent patient-care orientation.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
    • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
    • Proficiency in the use of radiology information systems and digital imaging technology.

    Working Hours

    • Monday to Friday: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
    • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
    • Additional hours may be required during emergencies or as approved by management.

    Working Conditions

    • Exposure to diagnostic imaging equipment and controlled radiation environments.
    • Prolonged standing and movement during imaging procedures.
    • Interaction with patients of varying medical conditions.
    • Compliance with infection prevention and occupational health and safety regulations.
