Job Summary
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for cost planning, budgeting, and financial control of construction projects. This role ensures that projects are delivered within approved budgets while maintaining quality and efficiency.
The ideal candidate must be highly analytical, detail-oriented, and experienced in construction cost management, with the ability to track costs from project inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimation & Budgeting
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates for projects
- Develop detailed project budgets and cost plans
- Analyze drawings and specifications to determine cost implications
- Provide accurate cost advice to management
Cost Control & Financial Monitoring
- Track project costs against approved budgets
- Monitor expenditures and identify cost variances
- Implement cost control measures to prevent overruns
- Provide regular cost reports and financial updates
Procurement Support
- Support procurement process by preparing tender documents
- Analyze and evaluate contractor and supplier quotations
- Ensure cost-effectiveness in procurement decisions
- Assist in negotiation of contracts and pricing
Contract Administration
- Prepare and manage contracts, variations, and valuations
- Assess and certify contractor payments
- Manage variations and claims efficiently
- Ensure contractual compliance throughout project lifecycle
Site Coordination & Measurement
- Conduct site visits for measurement and valuation
- Verify quantities of materials and work done on site
- Work closely with Project Managers, Architects, and Site Engineers
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate cost records and documentation
- Prepare financial reports, cost analysis, and forecasts
- Ensure proper audit trail for all project financial activities
Risk Management
- Identify potential financial risks in projects
- Provide recommendations to mitigate cost-related risks
- Support decision-making with data-driven insights
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building Technology, or related field
- Minimum of 3–6 years relevant experience in construction or real estate projects
- Strong knowledge of BOQ preparation, cost estimation, and contract management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant QS software
- Good understanding of construction processes and materials
- Membership or progress toward professional bodies (NIQS, QSRBN) is an advantage
