The proprietary trader is responsible for deploying and managing the firm's capital across various asset classes to maximize profitability while strictly adhering to internal risk management guidelines.
This role involves developing, back-testing, and executing sophisticated trading strategies using technical and fundamental analysis, continuously monitoring market conditions, and leveraging trading technologies and platforms.
Operating within the Investments department, the position requires deep analytical skills, strong commercial acumen within the Nigerian capital markets, and close collaboration with risk managers and the broader investment team to drive strategic portfolio growth.
Key Responsibilities
Execute trades across various asset classes using the firm's capital.
Develop and implement trading strategies based on technical and/or fundamental analysis.
Continuously monitor markets and adjust strategies based on performance and market conditions.
Manage and control risk exposure in accordance with internal risk management guidelines.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market news, economic events, and trading technologies.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
Collaborate with other traders, analysts, and risk managers.
Back-test strategies and improve models to enhance profitability.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
5 years of trading experience in a proprietary trading environment or similar financial role.
Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of the Nigerian capital market instruments and trading rules.
Proficiency in trading platforms such as X-Gen (NGX trading engine), Bloomberg (if available), or in-house trading terminals.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
In-depth knowledge of financial markets, instruments, and trading strategies.
Excellent risk management and decision-making skills.
