    Program Assistants (Zamfara)

    Context

    • Zamfara State, particularly Tsafe, Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs, is facing a severe humanitarian crisis driven by armed banditry, widespread displacement, food insecurity (including acute malnutrition), and climate-related shocks such as flooding. These crises have resulted in loss of lives, destruction of livelihoods, and an increasing number of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
    • Recent humanitarian assessments indicate that approximately 5.18 million people in Northwest Nigeria require multisectoral humanitarian assistance, with over 75% being women, children, and other vulnerable groups. As of early 2025, more than 51,000 IDPs were recorded in Sokoto State due to conflict and flooding, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian response.
    • CASFOD is implementing life-saving interventions in WASH, nutrition, and education to improve access to clean water, promote hygiene, support learning opportunities, and strengthen nutrition services for displaced and host communities.

    Role Purpose
    The Program Assistant will play a central role in coordinating, supervising, and supporting CASFOD’s humanitarian field activities in target LGAs. Under the guidance of the Project Officer/Head of Programs, the role holder will:

    • Supervise and guide field Volunteers.
    • Support implementation of WASH, nutrition, health, and learning support activities in IDP camps and host communities.
    • Ensure accurate, timely field reporting and documentation.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders, camp officials, community leaders, and sector actors to ensure effective delivery of services.
    • Contribute to behaviour change in hygiene, sanitation, safe water use, and nutrition practices.

    Roles and Responsibilities
    Supervision & Coordination:

    • Directly supervise and provide daily guidance to field Volunteers across Tsafe, Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs.
    • Plan and allocate weekly tasks to Field Volunteers, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
    • rack volunteer attendance, performance, and reporting consistency.
    • Conduct routine field visits to monitor activity quality and ensure adherence to CASFOD standards.

    Activity Implementation Support:

    • Support daily monitoring of WASH, nutrition, health, and education interventions.
    • Coordinate hygiene promotion activities and ensure alignment with community needs.
    • Support monitoring of learning activities within camps and communities.
    • Participate in and oversee WASH-NFI kit distributions.

    Reporting & Documentation:

    • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports from Field Volunteers.
    • Produce consolidated reports for the Project Officer.
    • Support volunteers in data collection for donor reporting and proposal development.
    • Maintain updated documentation of meetings, trainings, and field activities.

    Community Engagement & Stakeholder Coordination:

    •  Liaise with camp officials, community leaders, and local actors to ensure smooth implementation.
    • Represent CASFOD in field-level coordination meetings (WASH, Nutrition, Education).
    • Support community mobilization efforts in collaboration with volunteers and stakeholders.
    • Promote integration of gender, disability inclusion, protection mainstreaming, and accountability to affected populations (AAP).

    Compliance & Safeguarding:

    • Ensure Field Volunteers comply with CASFOD’s policies, including:

    Child Safeguarding:

    • Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment (PSEAH)

    Code of Conduct:

    • Report any safeguarding or protection concerns immediately following CASFOD reporting procedures.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Support procurement and logistics arrangements for field activities when required.
    • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Project Officer that align with the role.

    Qualifications and Experience
    Essential:

    • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Community Development, Education, Nutrition, or related field.
    • 2–4 years experience in humanitarian field operations (WASH, nutrition, health, education, or protection).
    • Experience supervising community volunteers.
    • Strong coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work with women, children, and vulnerable groups.
    • Demonstrated understanding of gender, disability inclusion, AAP, and protection mainstreaming.
    • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to difficult field conditions.
    • Proficiency in Hausa and/or local languages of Sokoto State.

    Desirable:

    •  Experience working in the Northwest Nigeria humanitarian response.
    •  Experience with mobile data collection tools (Kobo, ODK).
