Policy, Research & Observatory Lead (Remote) at Grace & Blacksmith Consulting

About the Role

This is a leadership role for someone who understands that research is not just about producing reports — it’s about driving change.

You will lead the organisation’s research and policy work, while building and managing a flagship Observatory platform that generates insight, informs decision-making, and strengthens accountability across the sector.

You’ll also play a key role in bringing people together — researchers, policymakers, media actors, and partners — and ensuring that conversations lead to action.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the organisation’s research and policy agenda
• Build and manage the Observatory platform and its workstreams
• Oversee production of high-quality research outputs (reports, briefs, insights)
• Translate evidence into clear policy recommendations and advocacy direction
• Engage with policy stakeholders, regulators, media, and partners
• Convene and manage communities of practice and policy dialogues
• Work with digital teams to turn research into accessible tools and platforms
• Support partnerships and funding opportunities linked to research work
• Lead and support a growing team of researchers and consultants

Who This Role Is For

This role is for someone who:

• Has 7+ years’ experience in research, policy, advocacy, or related work
• Has led or contributed to work that influenced decisions, systems, or institutions
• Is comfortable working across research, policy, and stakeholder engagement
• Can take complex ideas and make them clear, practical, and usable
• Has experience working with multiple stakeholders or across sectors

Writes clearly and thinks critically

An advanced degree in a relevant field is an advantage, but strong experience matters just as much.
