    Outboard Engine Mechanic

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct routine maintenance on ferry boat engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections.
    • Diagnose and repair ferry boat engine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
    • Overhaul and rebuild engines as required.
    • Identify and resolve engine performance issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
    • Perform root cause analysis to address recurring mechanical problems.
    • Identify faulty engine components and provide details to line manager and procurement.
    • Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
    • Conduct pre-departure and post-arrival inspections to ensure engines are operating safely and efficiently.
    • Maintaining proper logs, reports, metrics and file reports in line with company standards
    • Identify and mitigate potential hazards to ensure passenger and crew safety.
    • Respond promptly to engine breakdowns and other emergencies to restore operational functionality.
    • Assist in towing operations or other contingency measures when required.
    • Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with maritime safety standards and regulations.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
    • To be familiar with different types of outboard engines: Suzuki, Yamaha.

    Qualifications

    • Diploma or certification in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
    • Experience of jobs in a tugboat such as tugboat mate.
    • Experience in outboard engines overhauling, inboard engine (as Volvo Penta), lower units, steering and trimming systems
    • Minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience in marine engine maintenance and repair, preferably on ferry boats.
    • Relevant certifications in marine engine repair or maritime safety (e.g., STCW certification) are a plus
