    Nutritionist 2

    Under the supervision of the Detention Nutritionist, Nutritionist 2 plan, implement, monitor and evaluate nutrition activities in places of detention in the delegation’s Area of Responsibility (AoR) and provides support to the protection team in achieving the nutrition in detention related objectives in line with the Delegation’s strategy.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Supports the Detention Nutritionist in the analysis, definition, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the nutrition in detention program
    • Liaises and builds networks with the detaining authorities, the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other actors involved in food and nutrition in places of detention in order to facilitate communication and on coordination of activities that are aimed at ensuring more efficient access to food in detention
    • Contributes to the planning and organization of quarterly nutrition surveys in places of detention including data collection, data entry, analysis, and reporting
    • Supports the Detention Nutritionist in the preparation of reports on food chain assessment and nutrition programs by places of detention and overall, to be shared with detaining authorities and penitentiary administration staff at local and central level.
    • Participates in the organization of nutrition in detention workshops/round tables with detaining authorities at central and local level to ensure that measures to improve food chain as well as the nutritional status of detainees are implemented
    • Participates in the monitoring of stocks and consumption of food and non-food items on a monthly basis and prepares and follows-up on Supply Requests (SRs) for food and non-food items assistance
    • Contribute in the assessment, analysis and monitoring of the food chain in places of detentions including budget and procurement, food supply/production, food storage, food transformation/preparation, food distribution and food consumption.
    • Supports the Nutritionist in Detention in the implementation of procedures and tools for an adequate food and nutrition system in different places of detention (i.e. Recommended diet, food procurement, food storage, food preparation, cooking and handling instruction, treatment and management of adult malnutrition);
    • Mentors prison authorities’ staff in food chain assessment and nutrition survey implementation and results analysis
    • Participates in the collection and compilation of weekly nutrition program data and indicators

    Education and Experience Required

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Nutritional Science or Public Health, or equivalent work experience
    • 3 to 5 years’ experience in detention, nutrition, or health field
    • Advanced ability to converse in English and other Nigerian’s local languages (Hausa and Kanuri asset)
    • Knowledge of detaining authorities or other stakeholders, potential network of interlocutors

    Desired profile and Skills

    • Expert level in computer skills
    • Skilled in the following competencies: Networking & Communication; Adapting & Learning; Responsibility & Autonomy
    • Communication (ability to express views and ideas), Analysis & Synthesis
    • Good knowledge of the ICRC mandate, IHL, and of other humanitarian topics
    • Good knowledge of geographically assigned environment
    • Readiness to spend 25% of the time in the field
