Maasai is seeking a Mergers and Acquisitions (‘M&A’) leader to play a critical role in shaping the deal structuring, financial advisory and mergers and acquisitions components of our business from the ground up. You will work closely with the founders to build, scale, and optimize our business/platform, while fostering a collaborative and creative work environment. You’ll also work directly with our advisors and customers to hear their challenges first-hand and show how the solutions we’re building can help them.
You role is pivotal in identifying and executing acquisitions that drive significant growth and confidence for startups and investors alike. You will enjoy working in the startup space, typically engaging with founders, and funders, completing multiple acquisitions in a middle man role. This is a unique opportunity to leave your mark from the very beginning of a new product and help shape the future of startups in Africa.

Key Responsibilities
Deal origination: cultivate and manage a robust network of brokers, investors and funders, as well as directly connecting with relevant target organisations
Deal structuring
In-depth market research to identify potential M/A synergies for the buy and sell sides of our business
Lead valuation, financial modelling, and due diligence processes
Work with legal to ensure regulatory compliance
Prepare presentations, pitchbooks and reports
Drive synergy and performance improvement post acquisition
Qualifications
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, M&A
Proven track record of leading complex M&A projects with successful outcomes
Experience across a range of sectors
Capital and Finance: experience creating and finalising capital structures backed by relevant qualifications, expert knowledge of valuation techniques, financial modelling, and the intricacies of deal structuring
Due Diligence and Risk Management: robust M&A risk assessment experience
Legal: working knowledge of corporate laws and processes behind mergers and acquisitions
Strategic Planning and Market Analysis: skilled at analyzing market conditions, identifying potential acquisition synergies, and assessing how these opportunities align with stakeholder goals
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management, or a related field
An MBA or other advanced degree is preferred
Relevant professional qualification(s)
Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with a proven capacity to lead cross-functional teams

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex issues and develop innovative solutions
