    Mathematics Teacher

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    • The Mathematics Teacher is responsible for teaching Mathematics to students across various age ranges and abilities, promoting mathematical excellence, and contributing to the school's mathematics curriculum.

    RELATIONSHIPS

    • The Mathematics teacher is selected by the Director of Schools in consultation with the HOS/KSC and HR.
    • The Mathematics teacher will report directly to the KS Coordinator. However, in the absence of the KSC, he/she will report to the HOS/DHOS who will also provide strategic leadership and day to day oversight. The Mathematics teacher works closely with other teachers, support teachers (SEN), students; and collaborates with parents/guardians, external exam boards and educational resource providers where required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan and Deliver Engaging Lessons: Design and implement well-structured, engaging, and differentiated mathematics lessons that cater to students with diverse learning needs and abilities.
    • Assess and Monitor Student Progress: Regularly evaluate students' mathematical understanding through formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback to support their learning.
    • Curriculum Development and Innovation: Contribute to the development, implementation, and periodic review of the mathematics curriculum, ensuring alignment with the school's educational objectives and external examination requirements.
    • Extracurricular Engagement: Organize and lead mathematics clubs, competitions, and enrichment programs to foster students' interest in mathematics beyond the classroom.
    • Create an Effective Learning Environment: Maintain a well-organized, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active learning and mathematical exploration.
    • Collaboration with Colleagues: Work closely with other teachers, SEN support staff, and school leadership to share best practices, develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and support students with diverse needs.
    • Parental and Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress, address concerns, and offer strategies for supporting learning at home.
    • Use of Technology in Teaching: Integrate technology and digital resources into mathematics instruction to enhance engagement, problem-solving skills, and real-world applications of mathematical concepts.
    • Professional Development and Continuous Learning: Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and other professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness and stay updated on best practices in mathematics education.
    • School Community Participation: Support school-wide initiatives, events, and activities, actively contributing to the broader educational experience and the school's culture of excellence.

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

    Lesson Effectiveness and Student Engagement

    • Deliver a minimum of 90% of planned lessons per term that are rated as engaging and well-structured based on student feedback, classroom observations, and lesson evaluations by school leadership.

    Student Performance and Progress

    • Achieve a minimum of 75% of students demonstrating progress in mathematics as measured through termly assessments, with at least 10% of students exceeding expectations.

    Curriculum Development and Innovation

    • Contribute at least two curriculum enhancements or innovative teaching strategies per academic year that improve student learning outcomes and align with external examination standards.

    Extracurricular Involvement

    • Organize at least three mathematics-related extracurricular activities per academic year, such as competitions, clubs, or enrichment sessions, with at least 60% student participation.

    Technology Integration in Teaching

    • Implement and utilize at least three digital tools or technology-based learning strategies per term to enhance mathematics instruction and problem-solving skills.

    Parental and Stakeholder Communication

    • Maintain at least 90% positive parent engagement, ensuring timely updates on student progress through at least one structured communication per term (e.g., parent-teacher conferences, reports, or newsletters).

    Assessment, Recording and Reporting

    • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use outcomes to adapt teaching accordingly.
    • Provide quality marking and feedback and identify clear targets for future learning as appropriate.
    • Carry out assessment cycles (e.g., collection of effort and attainment assessments, reports) as agreed by the school.
    • Be familiar with the Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs and keep appropriate records on Individual Education Plans for pupils.

    QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ TRCN
    • Degree in Mathematics or related subject (e.g., physics, engineering)
    • Experience teaching mathematics in a British school setting (desirable)
    • Strong subject knowledge and pedagogical skills
    • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying ages and abilities
    • Familiarity with British mathematics curriculum and assessment frameworks (e.g., GCSE, A-level)
