Kitchen Assistant / Steward at Cedar Grillz & Lounge

Role

• Full-time, shift-based (evenings, weekends & public holidays) position in Gwarinpa, Abuja -Reports to the Sous Chef (day-to-day) and Head Chef (overall).

Core Purpose

• Support every kitchen section (grill, African, intercontinental and pastry) with ingredient preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, stock handling and station support so the chefs can focus on cooking and service.
• Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and organisation, while building a foundation for a culinary career.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients: wash, peel, chop, slice, portion and assist with basic mise en place
• Wash, sanitise and store pots, pans, plates, cutlery and equipment promptly
• Keep work surfaces, floors, fridges and the dish area clean and organised
• Help receive, store and rotate stock correctly (FIFO)
• Follow all food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures
• Support chefs during service and help close the kitchen properly
• Take part in training and progressively learn basic cooking skills

Requirements

• Minimum: SSCE/WAEC/NECO with credits in English and Mathematics
• Preferred: Certificate, OND or diploma in Catering, Hospitality or Culinary Arts
• Food Handler / Food Safety certificate required (or to be obtained within 3 months)
• Prior kitchen or food-service experience is an advantage; motivated beginners are welcome
• Strong work ethic, reliability, hygiene focus and willingness to learn
• Minimum age: 18

• Uniform and safety gear provided; strict kitchen hygiene and grooming standards apply
• Physically demanding (long standing hours, heat, lifting, wet environment)
