Intern - Epidemiology/Medical Statistics at Viable Knowledge Masters Limited

Objective:

The intern will assist in the analysis and visualization of epidemiological data, contribute to research projects, and support the development of data-driven insights to inform public health decisions. This role offers an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience in epidemiology, medical statistics, and GIS applications.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Analysis and Management:
   1. Assist in the collection, cleaning, and analysis of epidemiological data.
   2. Support the design of Open Data Kit (ODK) based forms and hosting on a centralized ODK server.
   3. Utilize statistical software (Stata, R) for data analysis and interpretation.
   4. Support the preparation of datasets for research studies and projects.
2. Geographic Information Systems (GIS):
   1. Apply GIS software to map and analyze spatial data related to public health.
   2. Assist in the visualization of spatial data and the creation of maps for reports and presentations.
   3. Understudy an AI-driven geographic disease risk modelling platform for use in disease prediction and training new users.
3. Research Support:
   1. Participate in the design and implementation of epidemiological studies and surveys.
   2. Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings related to ongoing research.
   3. Assist in drafting reports, manuscripts, and presentations for internal and external dissemination.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
   1. Work closely with team members and contribute to project meetings.
   2. Communicate findings and updates to team members and stakeholders.
5. Learning and Development:
   1. Engage in training and professional development opportunities.
   2. Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in epidemiology, medical statistics, and GIS.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A Master's degree in Epidemiology, Medical Statistics, GIS or other quantitative sciences.
• Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Proficiency in statistical packages such as Stata or R.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Knowledge of public health principles and practices is an asset.

Supervision and Reporting:

The intern will report to the Research Manager and will work closely with the research team. Regular progress meetings will be held to review the intern's work and provide guidance.
