Objective:
The intern will assist in the analysis and visualization of epidemiological data, contribute to research projects, and support the development of data-driven insights to inform public health decisions. This role offers an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience in epidemiology, medical statistics, and GIS applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis and Management:
- Assist in the collection, cleaning, and analysis of epidemiological data.
- Support the design of Open Data Kit (ODK) based forms and hosting on a centralized ODK server.
- Utilize statistical software (Stata, R) for data analysis and interpretation.
- Support the preparation of datasets for research studies and projects.
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS):
- Apply GIS software to map and analyze spatial data related to public health.
- Assist in the visualization of spatial data and the creation of maps for reports and presentations.
- Understudy an AI-driven geographic disease risk modelling platform for use in disease prediction and training new users.
- Research Support:
- Participate in the design and implementation of epidemiological studies and surveys.
- Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings related to ongoing research.
- Assist in drafting reports, manuscripts, and presentations for internal and external dissemination.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with team members and contribute to project meetings.
- Communicate findings and updates to team members and stakeholders.
- Learning and Development:
- Engage in training and professional development opportunities.
- Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in epidemiology, medical statistics, and GIS.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Master's degree in Epidemiology, Medical Statistics, GIS or other quantitative sciences.
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Proficiency in statistical packages such as Stata or R.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices is an asset.
Supervision and Reporting:
The intern will report to the Research Manager and will work closely with the research team. Regular progress meetings will be held to review the intern's work and provide guidance.
