  • Instrumentation & Control Engineer

    Job Summary

    • The Instrumentation & Control Engineer is responsible for the technical integrity, accuracy, and completeness of all instrumentation and control engineering deliverables across project phases. The role ensures robust design, proper safeguarding philosophy, and full cross-discipline coordination from concept through detailed engineering.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Technical Ownership & Engineering Assurance

    • Own the technical accuracy and completeness of all instrumentation and control deliverables prior to issue.
    • Ensure early detection and correction of design errors before client submission or procurement impact.
    • Perform comprehensive Inter-Discipline Checks (IDCs) to resolve design conflicts, gaps, and inconsistencies across engineering disciplines.

    Control, Instrumentation & Safety Systems Design

    • Develop and maintain Instrumentation Philosophies covering:
    • Prepare control and safeguarding narratives aligned with project requirements and safety standards.

    Engineering Specifications & Deliverables

    • Prepare instrumentation specifications
    • Develop instrument deliverables including:

    Control System Design & Documentation Review

    • Review instrumentation and control drawings
    • Review and validate tagging on P&IDs for consistency and completeness

    Calculations & Engineering Analysis

    • Prepare engineering calculation sheets and supporting spreadsheets
    • Perform utility consumption calculations including:
    • Validate instrumentation sizing and system requirements where applicable

    Procurement & Tender Support

    • Prepare Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for instrumentation, control systems, and panels
    • Support tendering activities with technical input and equipment scope definition
    • Assist in technical evaluation of vendor bids

    Documentation & Configuration Control

    • Maintain full traceability of all engineering deliverables, revisions, mark-ups, and approvals
    • Ensure all documents are correctly stored in SharePoint in line with company document control standards
    • Guarantee 100% compliance with version control and approval workflows

    Cross-Discipline Collaboration

    • Coordinate with process, mechanical, piping, and electrical disciplines
    • Resolve technical interface issues across engineering systems
    • Ensure alignment between process intent and control philosophy

    Engineering Quality & Safety Compliance

    • Ensure all designs comply with relevant international standards and codes (IEC, ISA, API, ISO, etc.)
    • Participate in safety reviews including HAZOP, SIL, and F&G studies
    • Ensure compliance with QHSE requirements in all deliverables

    Education and Work Experience

    • B.Eng. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related engineering discipline
    • M.Sc. in Instrumentation, Control Systems, Automation, or related field (added advantage)
    • Professional registration with NSE and/or COREN (required)
    • Minimum of 10 years’ office-based Instrumentation & Control engineering experience in oil & gas or EPC/engineering services environment
    • Proven delivery of I&C design packages across:
    • Experience across upstream, midstream, and/or downstream projects
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct and sign off Inter-Discipline Checks (IDC) and design reviews
    • Experience supervising, reviewing, and mentoring junior engineers
    • Strong exposure to safety-critical systems (SIS, FGS, DCS/PLC environments)

    Competency and Skill Requirement

    Instrumentation & Control Engineering Expertise

    • End-to-end I&C design across FEED and DED phases
    • Development of instrumentation philosophies and control narratives
    • Field instrument selection (pressure, temperature, level, flow)
    • Strong understanding of control system architecture and integration

    Engineering Tools & Digital Systems

    • SPI INtools (database, index, wiring, loop, spec modules)
    • INSTRUCALC (valve sizing, flow element calculations)
    • MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    • Adobe Acrobat for engineering mark-ups
    • AutoCAD (drawing review and annotation)
    • Vendor tools (Emerson, PRV2SIZE, ValspeQ, etc.)

    Safety & Control Systems Knowledge

    • SIS, FGS, DCS/PLC system design principles
    • Safety lifecycle understanding (SIL studies, HAZOP participation)
    • Control systems: HIMA, Yokogawa, Emerson DeltaV, Triconex, Allen Bradley
    • Cause & Effect (C&E) logic development and validation

    Standards & Technical Compliance

    • Ability to interpret and apply international engineering codes

    Analytical & Engineering Judgment

    • Strong analytical problem-solving capability
    • Ability to resolve design conflicts and interface issues
    • Sound engineering judgment in safety-critical systems

    Documentation & Delivery Discipline

    • High-level technical report writing capability
    • Strong engineering documentation structure and traceability
    • SharePoint-based document control discipline

    Collaboration & Leadership

    • Cross-discipline coordination (Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Piping)
    • Ability to supervise and review junior engineers
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    Commercial Awareness

    • Understanding of CTR budgets and project constraints (Desirable)
    • Ability to support engineering deliverables within cost and schedule limits

    Key Performance Indicators

    Delivery Performance

    • ≥ 90% of deliverables issued on schedule per project milestones

    Engineering Quality

    • ≥ 85% first-issue accuracy (low major IDC comments)
    • Measured reduction in rework due to design errors

    Documentation Compliance

    • 100% SharePoint compliance

    Safety & Compliance

    • 100% participation in assigned HAZOP / SIL / safety reviews
    • Zero deviations from approved safety system requirements

     IDC Effectiveness

    • IDC resolution completed within agreed project timelines
    • Reduced interface-related field changes (target trend: downward year-on-year)

    Mentorship & Team Development

    • Progress of junior engineers against IDPs
    • Evidence of capability improvement within team outputs

    QHSE Performance

    • Zero incidents attributable to I&C engineering deliverables or activities

    Client Satisfaction

    • Positive feedback from project close-out reviews and client evaluations
