    Heavy-Duty Mechanic

    Job Description

    • The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the company’s fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and trailers.
    • The primary goal is to ensure maximum fleet availability, safety, and reliability while minimizing downtime.
    • The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver capable of diagnosing complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in modern trucks and trailers.

    Qualifications

    • Trade Test Certificate / Diploma in Heavy Duty Vehicle Mechanics or related field (NVQ or City & Guilds equivalent preferred).
    • 3–5 years of experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, specifically working with articulated trucks, rigid trucks, and trailers.
    • Strong equipment mechanical and/or electrical skills.
    • Ability to usehand tools.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more and to crouch and / or crawl in confined areas.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Follow a checklist of inspection procedures.
    • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services (oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements) according to manufacturer specifications.
    • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
    • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles.
    • Conduct routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts.
    • Adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system components.
    • Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment.
    • Test-drive vehicles to ensure that they run smoothly.
