Role Description

• This is a full-time hybrid leadership role based in Lagos — 3 days per week in the office — reporting directly to the CEO. You will own the entire engineering organisation — backend, frontend, mobile, QA, and DevOps — through launch and the scaling that follows. Our existing Head of Dev & Ops will report into you. The systems you'll be accountable for move real money in real time, under regulatory scrutiny, at peak loads driven by major football fixtures. This is a role for a proven engineering leader who still respects the details: someone who can build teams, set standards, hit dates, and hold a technical argument with their strongest engineers.

What You'll Do

• Own engineering delivery end to end: roadmap execution, release quality, and launch readiness
• Lead, grow, and retain the engineering organisation — hiring, structure, performance, and career development
• Set and enforce technical standards across architecture, code quality, testing, security, and observability
• Own production: uptime targets, incident management, on-call structure, and post-mortem discipline
• Partner with the CEO and product leadership to translate business goals into engineering plans with honest timelines
• Oversee critical third-party integrations — trading/odds providers, payments, KYC, and fraud tooling
• Balance delivery speed against reliability for a platform where a settlement bug is a customer trust crisis
• Own the engineering budget: headcount, cloud spend, tooling, and contractor engagements
• Ensure the platform meets regulatory and audit requirements for a licensed Nigerian operator
• Prepare the organisation to scale from launch through rapid post-launch growth

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years leading engineering teams or organisations
• A track record of shipping and operating high-transaction-volume, real-time production systems
• Strong technical depth — able to review architecture, challenge designs, and earn the respect of senior engineers; our stack is .NET, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and AWS/EKS
• Proven hiring ability: you've built teams, not just inherited them
• Experience owning production operations: SLOs, incident response, and reliability engineering
• Commercial judgement on build-vs-buy, vendor management, and engineering spend
• Direct, clear communication with both executives and engineers
• Experience in betting, gaming, fintech, payments, or another regulated, high-stakes domain is a strong advantageNice to Have
• Experience taking a product from pre-launch to commercial launch
• Prior experience in African markets, especially Nigeria
• SRE or infrastructure background
• Experience working with managed sportsbook/trading providers
