Head of Data at Field Intelligence

Job description

• We need your help to build out the processes and infrastructure delivering deliver data services to governments, NGO partners, commercial clients and internal teams, using data from our supply chain management suite. Our data services drive supply chain and programmatic decision making, our own operations, and the strengthening of public health programs across Africa.
• This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical architecture, domain modelling and process optimization.

Data services

• Champion data as a product: prioritize delivery of scalable, well-documented, reusable data assets, and work with strategy and business units to collaboratively develop new externally facing data-driven services

Organizational capacity

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data function across data management team, engineering, and department leads

Data environment

• Working with data managers and infrastructure and engineering teams, own and manage the application and analytic databases, ensuring that schema, queries and DBMS configurations are verifiable, documented, maintainable and performant
• Introduce and improve tools and frameworks for data quality, monitoring, lineage, and CI/CD for data
• Work with engineering to evolve our data architecture to support analytics, operational, and ML use cases

Data analysis

• Explore our historical and operational data with data managers to derive meaningful operational and commercial insights, and assemble reports for internal and external clients

Required

• Professional experience applying advanced statistical methods to data management and analysis
• Advanced working knowledge of and professional experience with querying and manipulating data using relational databases (postgres), document databases (elasticsearch, couchdb), spreadsheets (google sheets, excel)
• Deep understanding of data lifecycle, from ingestion to transformation, governance, and delivery
• Strong grasp of data modeling, testing, and reliability principles
• Professional experience working with datasets for business intelligence and/or management information systems
• Pro SQL and relational database management skills
• Experience building or evolving modern data stacks
• Excellent quantitative communication skills and proven ability to problem solve with a multi-disciplinary team
• 6+ years of experience in a database management, data science role or equivalent
• Graduate degree in scientific or mathematical field
