    Head, Finance

    Job Summary

    • The Head of Finance is a forward-looking finance leader who partners with executive leadership to drive the financial and commercial performance of VIISAUS. The role pairs hands-on ownership of day-to-day finance operations with responsibility for designing, implementing, and continuously improving the systems, controls, and reporting that allow the firm to scale with discipline.
    • This is a builder's role as much as a steward's. Beyond maintaining accurate books, the Head of Finance is expected to look ahead, turning financial and operational data into forward-looking insight that shapes pricing, investment, and growth decisions, and putting in place the processes that make sound financial management repeatable. The successful candidate will be energised by creating structure, leading from the front, and turning financial information into a genuine competitive advantage for a fast-growing data and insights firm.

The Head of Finance works closely with, and acts as a trusted advisor to, the Managing Partner on the financial health and commercial direction of the firm.

As The Head, Finance, your responsibilities will be to:

    Strategic & Commercial Finance Partnership

    • Act as a forward-looking finance partner to executive leadership, translating financial and operational data into insight that informs strategy, pricing, and growth decisions.
    • Provide commercial decision support, including investment appraisal, scenario analysis, and business-case modelling, for new opportunities and major firm decisions.
    • Help shape the firm's medium- and long-term financial strategy, including sustainability, profitability, and capital priorities.
    • Anticipate issues and model options ahead of decisions, advising leadership proactively rather than reporting after the fact.

    Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting

    • Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing reforecasting, partnering with desk and department heads to build realistic, owned plans.
    • Develop and maintain forward-looking financial models, rolling forecasts, and scenario analyses to support decision-making.
    • Track performance against budget, explain variances, and translate them into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.
    • Establish the planning rhythm and financial discipline that supports a scaling, multi-desk professional services firm.

    Reporting, Systems & Process Design

    • Design, implement, and continuously improve management reporting, including performance dashboards that give leadership a clear and timely view of financial and commercial health.
    • Build, document, and embed finance processes, workflows, and policies, and drive their consistent execution across the organisation.
    • Identify and implement appropriate finance systems and tools, contributing to the firm's wider digital and operational improvement agenda.
    • Ensure financial data is accurate, well-structured, and decision-ready.

    Accounting, Tax & Statutory Compliance

    • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bookkeeping, and fixed-asset management.
    • Ensure compliance with IFRS, Nigerian tax regulations, and all statutory reporting and filing requirements.
    • Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory submissions, and maintain strong relationships with auditors, regulators, and tax authorities.
    • Uphold internal financial policies and governance frameworks.

Cash Flow, Treasury & Banking Relationships

    • Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to support operational and strategic needs.
    • Build and manage banking relationships and oversee payments and foreign-exchange exposures.
    • Monitor cash positions and ensure the firm maintains sufficient liquidity to meet its obligations and plans.
    • Advise leadership on treasury matters and the efficient use of the firm's financial resources.

    Internal Controls & Risk Management

    • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls that safeguard the firm's assets and ensure financial integrity.
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, and regulatory risks.
    • Oversee procurement, insurance, and contract-related financial risk.
    • Strengthen the firm's control environment as it grows.

    Team Leadership & Development

    • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, building capability and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
    • Set clear standards and ways of working, and represent finance constructively across the firm.

You’d be a good fit if you:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA is a plus).
    • Professional certification, ICAN (ACA) or ACCA, is required.
    • Minimum of 8 to 12 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 years in a management role (consulting, advisory, or professional services background is strongly preferred).
    • Demonstrated strategic mindset, with the ability to translate financial data into business insight for executive decision-making.
    • Proven experience advising on investment decisions and building, negotiating, and managing banking relationships.
    • Strong knowledge of IFRS, Nigerian tax regulations, and financial modelling.
    • Proven experience in managing audits, compliance, and regulatory filings.
    • Deep knowledge of accounting standards and financial management best practices.
    • Proven ability to support strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
    • Familiarity with project-based revenue models and donor/grant financial reporting is an advantage.
    • High integrity, with a commitment to transparency and ethical practices
