    Guidance Counsellor

    JOB PURPOSE

    • To provide comprehensive guidance and counselling services to students, supporting their academic, personal, social and emotional development; and facilitating a positive school experience.

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    • The Guidance Counsellor will work collaboratively with students, teachers, parents and external agencies to promote student well-being, academic success and post secondary readiness.

    RELATIONSHIPS

    • The Guidance Counsellor is selected by the Director of Schools in consultation with the HOS and HR.
    • The Guidance Counsellor will report directly to the HOS/DHOS. However, in the absence of the HOS/DHOS, he/she will report to the DOS who will also provide strategic leadership and day to day oversight. The Guidance Counsellor will work collaboratively with students, parents, external counsellors, universities and educational institutions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Student Support

    • Provide individual and group counselling sessions
    • Address academic, personal, social and emotional concerns
    • Develop and implement student support plans

    Academic Guidance

    • Assist with course selection, academic planning and university applications
    • Provide information on post-secondary options and career pathways
    • Support students with learning difficulties or special needs

    Career Guidance

    • Organise career events, workshops and fairs
    • Provide career assessments and guidance
    • Maintain relationships with universities and industry partners

    Personal and Social Development

    • Foster positive relationships and social skills
    • Promote mental health awareness and well being
    • Develop and deliver workshops on life skills and character education

    Parent and Teacher Support

    • Offer guidance on supporting students’ needs
    • Provide training and resources for teachers and parents
    • Facilitate parent-teacher conferences and student support meetings

    Referral and Liaison

    • Identify and refer students to external support services
    • Collaborate with external agencies and professionals
    • Ensure compliance with child protection and safeguarding policies

    QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Education or a related field
    • Certification in school counselling
    • Minimum of 4 years experience in school counselling, preferably in an international setting
    • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and educational landscape
    • Excellent communication, counselling and interpersonal skills
    • Experience with diverse student populations
    • Training in mindfulness or other therapeutic approaches is desirable
    • Knowledge of special educational needs and disability (SEND) is desirable

    WORKING LANGUAGE

    • English

    WORKING HOURS

    • Monday through Friday from 7.20am to 4.00pm; work on selected Saturdays may be required to cover staff training and community outreach.
