We are seeking a professional GIS Specialist to join our team on an on-going USAID funded Lagos Urban Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Activity (LUWASH) project in Nigeria.
The objective of this project is to support our Client, The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), in the expansion and improvement of urban WASH service delivery and infrastructure through strengthened governance, increased accountability, and improved financial and technical capabilities of public water utilities and private sector providers.
Duties
Collecting, organizing, and managing geospatial data related to the urban water supply system, including water sources, pipelines, reservoirs, and distribution networks.
Creating and maintaining accurate and up-to-date GIS databases and maps for the water supply infrastructure.
Conducting spatial analysis and modeling to support decision-making processes related to the planning, design, and management of the water supply system.
Collaborating with engineers, planners, and other stakeholders to integrate GIS data into project designs and workflows.
Developing and implementing GIS-based tools and applications to improve data visualization, analysis, and reporting.
Keeping up-to-date with advancements in GIS technology and industry trends to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of GIS applications in the water supply project.
Collaborating with other departments or agencies to exchange GIS data and ensure the development and implementing of GIS-based tools and applications to improve data visualization, analysis, and reporting.
Assisting in the development of geodatabases, data standards, and metadata documentation for the water supply project.
Conducting quality control checks on GIS data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to industry standards.
Providing technical support and training to project teams and stakeholders on the use of GIS software and tools.
Any other tasks assigned by the Sheladia home office/ client to ensure smooth project implementation.
Qualifications
General Qualification:
Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Geoscience, or a related field with 10 years’ experience in the GIS including 5 years in Urban Water supply and services projects.
Proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or other relevant mapping and spatial analysis tools.
Strong knowledge of geospatial data management, including data collection, integration, analysis, and visualization.
Familiarity with water supply systems and infrastructure, including water distribution networks, pumping stations, and treatment plants.
