JOB OVERVIEW
- The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization’s manufacturing and export businesses, covering metals, minerals, and agro-commodities. The role ensures financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance across domestic production and international trade activities. This position supports the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in driving profitability, cost control, export liquidity, and stakeholder confidence through
- strong financial governance and reporting discipline.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
- Consolidate reports across multiple plants and export subsidiaries for management and audit review.
- Manage the general ledger, journal entries, and ensure accuracy of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Coordinate annual external audits and implement recommendations from auditors.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning
- Lead the budgeting process, ensuring alignment with production, logistics, and export sales targets.
- Develop quarterly forecasts and variance analysis for performance tracking.
- Advise management on investment priorities and cost optimization strategies.
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
- Implement and maintain standard costing systems for raw materials, production, and conversion costs.
- Analyze yield, scrap rates, energy consumption, and process efficiency metrics.
- Provide detailed cost variance analysis and margin reports to management.
- Collaborate with plant managers to enhance cost efficiency and operational productivity.
Export Finance & Trade Compliance
- Oversee all financial aspects of export operations including Letters of Credit (LCs), NXP forms, and repatriation of export
- proceeds.
- Ensure compliance with CBN, NEPC, NCS, and FIRS regulations related to export trade.
- Monitor FX positions and optimize utilization of foreign exchange for raw material sourcing and export funding.
- Coordinate with banks and logistics providers on export documentation and payment settlements.
Treasury, Working Capital & Cash Flow Management
- Supervise cash flow forecasting and ensure sufficient liquidity for operations and capital projects.
- Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and debt covenants.
- Monitor receivables, payables, and inventory to ensure optimal working capital efficiency.
- Review capital expenditure requests and ensure financial justification for major projects.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Taxation
- Develop and enforce internal control policies across procurement, production, and sales.
- Ensure full compliance with tax obligations including CIT, VAT, WHT, and export-related incentives.
- Oversee implementation of ERP-based approval workflows for all finance transactions.
- Coordinate internal audit activities and resolve identified issues promptly.
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor finance team members including accountants, analysts, and treasury officers.
- Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
- Provide financial training to non-finance managers to improve budget discipline and cost awareness.
- Support the CFO and Executive Team in corporate strategic initiatives.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Technical: Financial reporting (IFRS), cost accounting, treasury, tax compliance, ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Odoo).
- Analytical: Variance analysis, financial modeling, capital budgeting, data-driven decision-making.

- Reporting Timely and accurate financial statements Within 7 working days of month-end

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Economics (Master’s preferred).
- Professional certification: ICAN or ACCA (mandatory).
- 10–15 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in manufacturing/export operations.
- Strong knowledge of metals, minerals, and agro-commodity value chains.
- Proven track record managing multi-site financial operations and external audits.
