Field Support Engineer at eStream Networks

• Resolves, repairs and installs fibre optics systems and ensures that they work properly.
• Examines and replaces faulty and old fibre optic cables and also organises scheduled maintenance routines.
• Takes care of fibre splicing and rectifies fibre optic problem areas.
• Executes premises cabling and takes care of the underground and aerial cabling requirements.
• Keep track of the signal strength of different devices.
• Formulates and maintains system records and system designs.
• Supervises fibre projects and installations.
• Patrols existing fibre installations/infrastructure.
• Installs, integrates and optimises fibre connectivity with support from Network Planning/Optimisation and Service Management Centre.
• Monitors and maintains Outside Plant Network and Premises fibre installations.
• Resolves issues related to the fibre network.
• Follows standard procedures of their organisations to resolve issues by escalating them to the relevant internal departments.
• Provides accurate feedback to the Service Management Desk promptly.
• Ensures proper logging of all issues.
• Prepares accurate reports promptly.

Technical / Analysis and Problem Solving

• Ensures that surveys carried out are 90% accurate.
• Responsible for configuring customer routers for the integration of last-mile connections, like Microwave Radio and Optical Fibre issues resolution.
• Ensures that there is no course to revisit sites deployed within 6 months.
• Responsible for installing and configuring all installation equipment (Configuration items) while ensuring documentation of installation activities.
• Ensures that 90% implementation of the Maintenance plan.
• Responsible for testing and ensuring that signal strength, signal-to-noise ratio and any other parameters are in accordance with eStream-approved standards.
• Responsible for the documentation of all deployment activities in accordance with the service deployment procedure.

Interpersonal, Relationship Management & Collaboration

• Liaise with 3rd party vendor to deliver projects.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments, teams and Clients.

Communication

• Promptly report any incident, problems, known errors, unexpected events or deviation from deployment plans.
• Deliver weekly reports on the status of deployment. 
• Generate and submit periodic project and operational reports to the Regional Team Lead for informed decision-making.

Customer Focus

• Timely response to customer complaint.
• Promptly resolution of 2nd level issues.

Financial Management

• Recommended & implemented cost-saving initiatives.

Competency Requirement

Qualifications & Work Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Electronics Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a relevant role.
• RF engineering experience working in the telecoms industry.
• Optic fibre installation and diagnosis experience.
• Familiarity and knowledge in the use of basic OFC tools: OTDR, Power Meter and fusion splicing machine, etc.
• Affiliation with relevant professional bodies.

Skills and Abilities

• Certification in CCNA, CWNA.
• Relationship & People Management.

KPAs

• Quality of deployment without recourse to revisit the site.
• Prompt resolution of 2nd-level issues in less than 10hours across the country.
• 10% cost savings on deployment.
