Field Assistant / Driver at IITA - International Institute of Tropical Agriculture

DUTIES:

• Drive and maintain the Units vehicle under optimum condition in readiness for on and off station activities.
• Perform necessary cleaning and washing of the Units vehicle.
• Ensure vehicle documents are complete and update at all time.
• Support trial establishment and maintenance both on and off station.
• Support tuber quality phenotyping for yam trials.
• Support phenotyping of yam plants at vegetative, harvest and post-harvest stages in the field and screen house.
• Support harvesting of trials on the field and screen house
• Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION:

• National diploma in Agriculture or any other related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience on clonal breeding in a well-structured environment.

COMPETENCIES:

The ideal candidate must:

• Have excellent interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and communication skills.
• Be competent in sample preparation for virus indexing.
• Be strict observance of protocol for genetic purity of yam in-vitro plantlets under conservation.
• Have ability to work in a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary environment.
