    Engineering Manager

    Position Overview

    • The Engineering Manager will plan, supervise, and coordinate all construction-related projects CCDRN undertakes, including developing shelters, school buildings, classrooms, irrigation facilities (dam), recreational facilities, and office buildings.
    • This role will ensure that engineering projects meet set quality standards, schedules, and budgets while adhering to relevant safety regulations and best practices.
    • The Engineering Manager will collaborate with local authorities, community leaders, and donor agencies to ensure seamless project delivery and alignment with organizational goals.

    Key Responsibilities
    Project Planning and Design:

    • Lead the planning and design of construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards and donor requirements.
    • Oversee feasibility studies, site assessments, and environmental impact evaluations for proposed construction activities.
    • Develop and review engineering designs, drawings, bills of quantities (BOQs), and technical specifications for various structures (e.g., shelters, classrooms, staff offices, recreational facilities).
    • Collaborate with architects and other design professionals to finalize project layouts, ensuring cost-effectiveness, functionality, and durability.

    Project Implementation and Supervision:

    • Develop comprehensive implementation plans and schedules for each construction project, monitoring progress against milestones.
    • Support procurement processes for construction materials, equipment, and services, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise field engineers, site supervisors, and other technical staff to ensure quality standards and timely project completion.
    • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the progress of projects, identify challenges, and propose corrective measures.
    • Coordinate with local community structures to ensure acceptance, ownership, and sustainability of facilities post-completion.

    Quality Control and Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
    • Implement strict quality control measures throughout construction, including on-site inspections, material testing, and documentation of defects.
    • Conduct health and safety training for site teams and ensure strict adherence to occupational health and safety guidelines.
    • Manage risk assessments for construction sites, focusing on minimizing accidents, structural failures, and environmental impacts.

    Budgeting and Financial Management:

    • Develop and manage construction budgets, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and organizational financial procedures.
    • Monitor expenditures, track cost variations, and prepare detailed financial reports for management and donors.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or compliance standards.
    • Coordinate with the Finance department to ensure timely payments to contractors, suppliers, and project staff.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination:

    • Work closely with government authorities, such as local government councils, Ministries of Works, and other regulatory bodies, to secure approvals and ensure compliance.
    • Engage community leaders and beneficiaries, ensuring project designs and schedules address local needs and priorities.
    • Liaise with donors, partner NGOs, and other stakeholders for effective coordination of activities and resource sharing where applicable.
    • Represent CCDRN in technical forums, relevant networks, and meetings with partners or government agencies.

    Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare detailed engineering documents, including technical reports, progress updates, and completion certificates for each project.
    • Document lessons learned best practices, and innovations for continuous improvement and future project reference.
    • Contribute technical inputs to quarterly and annual project reports for donors and senior management.
    • Maintain organized records of all construction-related documentation, including contracts, site logs, photos, and certification documents.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction project management.
    • Demonstrable experience handling multiple construction projects simultaneously.
    • Strong understanding of northern Nigeria's local building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
    • Proven track record of budget management and financial reporting for large-scale construction projects.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
    • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and project management tools.
    • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team management abilities.
