  • e-Mobility & Urban Transportation Business Consultant

    • Location: Nigeria (With a focus on primary commercial hubs)
    • Engagement Type: Contract / Project-Based (Phased Deliverables)
    • Contract period: 3 months

    Objective & Context

An investor is seeking a qualified Business Strategy and Market Feasibility Consultant to evaluate, de-risk, and map out a commercial entry into the two-wheel and three-wheeler (bicycles, motorcycles, and tricycles) market in Nigeria.

The consultant will conduct a comparative analysis between Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Gas-Powered (CNG/Petrol) models to identify the most sustainable, high-yield business framework. The final deliverable will be a bankable Feasibility Report, Financial Model, and Go-to-Market Strategy.

    Consultant Profile

The ideal candidate must possess an intersection of industrial knowledge, logistics insight, and financial modeling expertise tailored to the West African automotive or transport sector.

    • Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in the Nigerian automotive, logistics, mass transit, or e-mobility sectors.
    • Domain Knowledge: Proven understanding of the mechanics, supply chains, and operational dynamics of two- and three-wheelers (e.g., Keke Marwa, cargo tricycles, delivery e-bikes).
    • Technical & Regulatory Insight: Familiarity with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) guidelines, EV transition policies, consumer credit frameworks, and local assembly plant regulations (SKD/CKD).
    • Analytical Skills: Exceptional financial modeling skills, with the ability to calculate Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) comparisons between gas, electric, and hybrid options.

    Scope of Work

The assignment will be broken down into three distinct, actionable phases:

Phase 1: Comparative Market Analysis & Technology Selection

    • Evaluate the demand, unit economics, and consumer preferences for two- and three-wheelers across commercial (last-mile logistics, passenger transport) and retail segments.
    • Conduct a rigorous comparative study between Gas-Powered (CNG/Petrol) and Electric options:
      • For Gas: Assess CNG infrastructure availability and the local conversion/maintenance ecosystem.
      • For Electric: Analyze grid reliability, solar-powered charging possibilities, and the feasibility of "Battery-as-a-Service" (BaaS) swapping models.
    • Recommend the optimal product mix (e.g., passenger tricycles vs. cargo delivery bikes) and geographic rollout zone.

Phase 2: Supply Chain, Regulatory, & Operational Mapping

    • Map out the supply chain: Evaluate the financial trade-offs between importing Fully Built Units (CBU) versus establishing local Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) assembly partnerships to leverage government tax incentives.
    • Outline regulatory compliance requirements, including NADDC certifications, state transport ministry permits, and local government area (LGA) ticketing/union dynamics.
    • Identify potential technical partners, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and charging/fueling infrastructure providers.

    Phase 3: Financial Modeling & Go-to-Market Strategy

    • Build a 5-year financial model encompassing capital expenditures (CapEx), operating expenses (OpEx), asset depreciation, and revenue projections.
    • Formulate a realistic financing and collection strategy (e.g., Hire-Purchase options, asset leasing, or ride-hailing partnerships).
    • Deliver the final, comprehensive Business Plan and Risk Mitigation Matrix (covering forex volatility, battery lifespan risks, and operational security).

    Key responsibilities

    • Conduct secondary desk research and primary stakeholder interviews (with distributors, fleet operators, and transport unions).
    • Present data-driven bi-weekly progress updates to the principal investor.
    • Deliver an objective final presentation comparing the viability of gas vs. electric models.
