    Driver

    Position Overview:

    A school driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school. This position requires a responsible and reliable individual with excellent driving skills, a strong commitment to safety, and good communication abilities. The school driver is responsible for operating the school bus or other designated vehicle, maintaining the vehicle's cleanliness and safety, and ensuring the well-being of the students during transportation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Safe Transportation:

    • Safely operate the school bus or designated vehicle, following all traffic rules, regulations, and established routes.
    • Pick up and drop off students at designated stops, ensuring their safety during boarding and exiting the vehicle.
    • Maintain a calm and orderly environment on the bus, enforcing safety rules and discipline as needed.
    • Follow emergency procedures and protocols in case of accidents, breakdowns, or other incidents.

    Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:

    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure its safe and proper functioning.
    • Regularly check and maintain the vehicle's fluids, fuel levels, brakes, lights, tires, and other essential components.
    • Report any vehicle malfunctions, damages, or maintenance needs to the appropriate authorities promptly.
    • Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and outside, and ensure it is equipped with necessary safety equipment and supplies.

    Communication and Collaboration:

    • Maintain open and professional communication with school administration, teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding transportation-related matters.
    • Collaborate with school staff to coordinate pick-up and drop-off schedules and ensure efficient transportation logistics.
    • Communicate with parents or guardians regarding pick-up and drop-off times, changes in schedules, or any transportation-related updates.
    • Foster a positive and respectful relationship with students, addressing their needs and concerns during transportation.

    Student Safety and Behavior Management:

    • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during transit, adhering to all safety procedures and regulations.
    • Monitor student behavior on the bus, promoting a safe and respectful environment.
    • Intervene and address any disruptive or unsafe student behavior, maintaining a calm and controlled atmosphere.
    • Report any incidents or concerns regarding student behavior, safety, or well-being to appropriate school personnel.

    Compliance with Regulations:

    • Adhere to all relevant transportation laws, regulations, and policies, including those related to driving, vehicle maintenance, and student transportation.
    • Keep accurate records of daily routes, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents or accidents that occur during transportation.
    • Attend required training sessions, workshops, and meetings to stay updated on transportation protocols, safety practices, and any regulatory changes.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements to operate a school bus or designated vehicle (CDL, if required).
    • Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents.
    • Prior experience as a professional driver, preferably in a school or student transportation setting.
    • Good knowledge of traffic rules, regulations, and safe driving practices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when dealing with students, parents, and school staff.
    • Ability to maintain composure and handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Physical fitness and the ability to sit, drive, and assist students as needed.
    • Compliance with all relevant background checks and drug/alcohol testing, as required.
