As a skilled Drill Locator in HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) Operations, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate borehole placement and alignment during underground utility installation and infrastructure projects. Your expertise in locating and guiding drill paths will contribute to the success of HDD operations by achieving precision and minimizing potential disruptions.

Key Activities

• Path Planning and Preparation: Collaborating with project engineers and surveyors to determine optimal drill paths, analyzing project plans and technical drawings to identify challenges and plan efficient paths.
• Equipment Setup and Calibration: Assisting in setting up and calibrating tracking equipment like beacons, transmitters, and receivers to ensure accurate tracking of the drill head
• Real-time Monitoring and Guidance: Monitoring the drill head's position in real-time and providing timely guidance to the drill operator for alignment and positioning.
• Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Identifying and addressing discrepancies or challenges during drilling operations, working with the team to develop solutions
• Data Recording and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of drill path data, tracking information, and operational details, and preparing daily reports on progress and outcomes
• Quality Assurance; Ensuring accurate borehole placement according to specifications and collaborating with surveyors and engineers to verify alignment accuracy.

Educational Qualifications & Functional Skills:

• Academic: University Degree in Telecoms, Engineering, or Applied Sciences.
• Previous experience as a skilled Drill Locator in HDD operations.
• Proficiency in using tracking equipment, locating technology, and relevant software.
• Strong technical aptitude for interpreting project plans and technical drawings.
• Effective communication skills to guide drill operators in real-time.
• Understanding of subsurface conditions, soil types, and obstacles.
• Problem-solving skills to adjust drilling paths and address challenges.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in tracking and recording drill path data.
• Physical fitness for outdoor work in varying environmental conditions.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in HDD operations.
• Relevant certifications and training in drill path locating and HDD operations.

Work Experience:

• A minimum of 2 years experience as a drill locator in HDD operations
• Experienced in locating underground facilities in order to avoid damages to 3rd party infrastructure.
• Experienced in path planning and preparation of HDD bore routh
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
