The Deputy Head HSE will assist the Head of Health, Safety, and Environment in implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management System across Dangote Cement’s Transport.
The role involves leading HSE audits, conducting risk assessments, promoting a culture of safety, and ensuring compliance with national and international HSE regulations.
Responsibilities
Support the development and implementation of HSE policies, procedures, and programs.
Conduct regular HSE audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
Collaborate with management and employees to promote a strong safety culture.
Lead HSE training initiatives to ensure all employees are well-informed and compliant with safety regulations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HSE legislation and best practices.
Investigate incidents and accidents, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
Prepare and present HSE performance reports to management.
Serve as a point of contact for external audits and inspections.
Assist with the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
Master’s degree or relevant postgraduate certification (e.g., NEBOSH,) is an added advantage.
Membership in recognized professional HSE bodies (e.g., IOSH, ISPON, or equivalent).
Minimum of 6 years of progressive HSE experience, with at least 2–3 years in a managerial or senior supervisory role.
Experience with regulatory compliance, risk management, and incident investigation in high-risk operations.
Strong knowledge of national and international HSE regulations, standards, and best practices.
Competence in hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety audits.
Excellent leadership, people management, and team coordination abilities.
Ability to influence operational teams and senior stakeholders on HSE matters.
