    DDG Advisor - Risk Education

    Location: Maiduguri, Borno
    Contract Type: Expatriate contract

    Job Description

    • Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Risk Education Advisor to support all Explosive Ordnance Risk Education(EORE) activities implemented in North-East Nigeria.

    About the job
    DRC/DDG’s overall objective in Nigeria is to promote stability and resilience among those affected by displacement in northeastern Nigeria, in particular in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. To achieve this, DRC/DDG is focusing its programming on three main priorities:

    • Addressing the needs of youth at risk of dangerous migration, criminality and radicalization;
    • Enhancing community safety, conflict mediation and security sector governance; and
    • Reducing the risks associated with mines, Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and IED.

    Overall Purpose of the Role

    • Under the overall supervision of the DDG Head of Programme, the responsibility of the Risk Education Advisor is to develop and implement EORE activities in Northeast Nigeria.

    Responsibilities and Tasks
    To achieve the overall objectives, the Risk Education Advisor will perform the following tasks and undertake the following responsibilities:

    • Participate in needs assessments as required
    • Support the recruitment and supervision of  national risk education supervisors and facilitators in the three northeastern states
    • In close consultation with the DRC Nigeria team, contribute in the planning and delivery of emergency mine/ERW risk education (alongside DRC emergency/protection assistance) in camps and host communities, and to humanitarian agencies
    • Develop risk education materials
    • Facilitate and/or participate in mine action working group meetings
    • Ensure integrated DRC/DDG emergency response approach is followed
    • Liaise with DRC safety advisor to ensure the safety of field staff
    • Collect data about the possible location of mine/ERW contamination and victim data
    • Ensure quality delivery of RE in a difficult context
    • Represent DDG on mine action issues in relevant humanitarian coordination forums, in coordination with the DRC Country Director and other senior DRC/DDG programme staff
    • Liaising with state and local authorities and security providers to collect data on mines and ERW
    • Contribute to donor reporting

    About you

    • To be successful in this role, we expect you to have strong leadership skills and capacity to plan and deliver EORE training with strong pedagogy skills.
    • You need to have political and cultural sensitivity, as well as diplomatic, tactful and flexible interpersonal style.

    Requirements

    • A minimum of 5 years of proven recent experience in Risk Education training
    • Strong on liaison and networking with a different segment of the community as well as government stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to mentor and coach others.

    Desirable:

    • Proven experience working in EORE related programme
    • Minimum 3 years of EORE experience
    • Proven experience working in EORE related programme

    We Offer

    • Contract length: 8 months
    • Band/step: NM G Level 1 Step 1
    • Designation of Duty Station: Maiduguri, Nigeria. An unaccompanied Duty Station
    • Start date: 6th May 2020
