    Community Social Worker


    We currently implement two programs:
    1. Ibeshe Residential Home for boys; and
    2. Gbagada Drop-In Reception Centre for boys and girls

    We are about to start a new initiative, for which we seek a Community Social Worker (“CSW“):

    The Oworo Project:

    We are starting a project in Owororonshoki (“Oworo”) community in Kosofe LG of Lagos State, for children living with family but not attending school. CLL intends to place 100 children in school over the term of the project (40 in the first year) and support their families with skills acquisition and parenting classes to improve their ability to cater for their children‘s needs.

    The Role:

    A Community Social Worker (CSW) will:

    • Work as part of the CLL team, reporting to the Program Manager, to get the Oworo Project up and running.
    • Meet with community leaders and local authorities to identify children that are out of school, help select those most in need and able to benefit from the program, and work with relevant government agencies and local schools to ensure the children fulfil the requirements for placement and are placed in school in the appropriate classes.
    • Work directly with families, building trust, conducting needs assessments and making referrals to resources in the community; plan and administer programs.
    • Organize training for parents on good parenting, child protection and safeguarding.
    • Organize skills acquisition training for parents.
    • Assess the children’s needs, their situations, and determine the support required
    • Follow up on the children’s academic progress and arrange support for any special academic needs.
    • Provide counselling services for children and parents.
    • Maintain case files and records, ensuring compliance with confidentiality requirements.
    • Manage the budget for the project and ensure all expenditure is fully documented and auditable.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to the Program Manager.
    • Provide regular updates for program sponsors as required, as well as on social media, respecting all confidentiality and privacy requirements.
    • Design and help to execute plans to find sponsors for the children, to fund their education to completion, beyond the term of the Oworo Project.
    • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the project.
    • In addition, it shall be a part of the CSW’s responsibilities as a member of the CLL team, to identify children in need of help and respond to crisis situations such as child abuse.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree or Higher Diploma in Social Work or Child Psychology
    • 3 years’ experience in Social or Community work
    • 2 references, including one from a previous employer

    The Person:

    • Will have good communication skills, be fluent in Yoruba as well as English, and able to interact well with community members, children and families, as well as government officials and teachers.
    • Will be skilled at facilitation, training and program planning, design, monitoring and evaluation.
    • Will be computer literate, have good report writing skills, and be well-organized, keeping accurate and detailed records and approaching tasks in a methodical fashion.
    • Will have a positive attitude, be a good motivator, enthusiastic, and able to encourage sustained participation by others in the courses and events organized for the project.
    • Will have good social media skills.
    • A good team player, able to work and deliver results with minimal supervision.
