    Child Protection Officer

    Role Overview: 

    The Child Protection Officer will support child protection interventions, focusing on conflict-affected and vulnerable populations. S/he will ensure the protection of children at risk of violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Particularly in LGAs of project implementation, affected by displacement and insecurity, are identified and supported according to Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) standards and LCPD Child Safeguarding Policy. More so, the Child Protection Officer will provide hands-on guidance, support, mentoring, and coaching to Child Protection Case Workers and other volunteers, ensuring smooth and quality implementation of the child protection project.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 

    1. Participate in the development, execution, oversight, and reporting of child protection initiatives, especially those about initiatives meant to eradicate violence against children (VAC), including dealing with detrimental behaviors; 
    2. Create and carry out kid-friendly activities to support children\'s social inclusion, particularly those who are at risk. 
    3. To identify child protection issues and inform evidence-based programming, collaborate closely with the project team and child protection personnel, such as social workers and case workers;
    4. To promote seamless social empowerment and reintegration, provide children and adolescents with age and gender-appropriate social and community activities, such as life skills, school clubs, peer-to-peer assistance, dialogue sessions, etc. Support to program development and planning and implementation;
    5. Observe and provide satisfactory outcomes in relation to the project deliverables; 
    6. Keep an eye on children\'s protection-related concerns and work closely to reduce dangers to their development and well-being; 
    7. Educate parents/caregivers, adults, and club members on the Code of Conduct for working with children;
    8. Conduct training workshops, briefings, and coaching and monitoring sessions for kid protection. 
    9. Encourage children\'s safety, wellbeing, and rights;
    10. Oversee safe space operations and the provision of high-quality PSS for children, and to provide other staff members and parents/caregivers with briefings on child safety and protection;
    11. Participate in the creation or updating of child protection resources; 
    12. Provide staff and partners with child protection materials and other pertinent and helpful information;
    13. Attend meetings of Child Protection AoR/Working Groups, Inter-agency Coordination Platforms, and humanitarian coordination meetings at the LGA level; 
    14. Work along with local NGOs and INGOs, the Ministry of Youth/Sport/Social and Community Development, and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA); 

    Key requirements: 

    1. Sound understanding of the safeguarding/confidentiality SOPs, Child Protection Laws and the applicability;
    2. Strong leadership and management skills; 
    3. Sound understanding of the core humanitarian principles, confidentiality, 5 Ws and its applicability;
    4. Experience working in Northeast Nigeria, most preferably on Education in Emergencies Response; 
    5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Google Sheets/Docs, Report Writing (in humanitarian context), Outlook, and Excel; 
    6. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Hausa Languages;
    7. Ability to multitask, be organized, flexible, adapt, and work well under pressure; 
    8. Experience in developing and delivering coaching and training manuals and guidelines to a range of audiences across different agencies.
    9. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with partners, donors, and stakeholders within the Nigerian Education Sector;
    10. Demonstrated capacity for teaching & coaching, engaging approaches to training, and orientation session delivery.
