Job Role
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of pupils, staff, school property, and visitors. He/she oversees all security operations, develops and enforces policies, manages security personnel, and liaises with external security agencies to maintain a safe learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Security Management & Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of all security personnel (guards, gatekeepers, surveillance staff).
- Prepare duty rosters and ensure 24/7 security coverage of the school premises.
- Monitor entry and exit points to prevent unauthorized access.
Safety of Students and Staff
- Ensure pupils are safely dropped off and picked up, coordinating with parents/guardians on identification protocols.
- Escort and monitor students during school trips, events, and excursions.
- Implement safeguarding measures to protect children from intruders and potential threats.
Surveillance & Monitoring
- Oversee the use of CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and access control systems.
- Conduct regular patrols within and around the school environment.
- Report and address suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities near the school.
Policy Development & Enforcement
- Develop and enforce school security policies and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with visitor registration and staff identification systems.
- Conduct regular security awareness training for staff and students (e.g., fire drills, evacuation exercises).
Incident & Risk Management
- Respond promptly to emergencies, disturbances, or security breaches.
- Document and investigate all security incidents, submitting reports to school management.
- Assess risks and recommend preventive measures to reduce potential threats.
Liaison & Coordination
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, community vigilantes, and local authorities for intelligence and rapid response.
- Work closely with the school management to align security operations with school policies.
Asset & Property Protection
- Safeguard school facilities, vehicles, equipment, and instructional materials from theft or vandalism.
- Monitor delivery of goods and supplies to prevent unauthorized access or diversion.
Skills and Qualities Required
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Vigilance, alertness, and quick decision-making ability.
- Knowledge of security systems (CCTV, access control, alarms).
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Integrity, discipline, and professionalism.
Education
- Relevant security training certifications is acceptable
- Past military or paramilitary experience is acceptable
