Main Job of the Chief Financial Officer CFO
The primary job responsibility of the CFO is to optimize the financial performance of our company, including its reporting, liquidity, and return on investment. The CFO is to report directly to Chief Executive Officer CEO and perform other duties that include leadership, communication with the board, negotiating with suppliers and vendors, and supporting the company’s mission, vision, values, and culture.
The CFO must manage these responsibilities that is the Reporting, treasury, and financial planning and analysis (FP&A).
1. Reporting
Reporting on all company’s historical financial reports to be overseen by CFO, he is to ensure that of the company’s historical financial reports is professionally prepared as required for shareholders, employees, lenders, research analysts, governments, and regulatory bodies. The report must be prepared in an accurate and timely manner.
2. Liquidity
The CFO must ensure the company is able to meet its financial commitments and manage cash flow in the most efficient way. He is to set up and mange a treasury in which the company’s cash balance and working capital, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory are kept in absolute shape. The CFO will also manage the issuing of any debt, managing investments, and handle other liquidity-related decisions.
3. Return on Investment
The CFO must ensure that the company earn the highest possible risk-adjusted return on assets and return on capital (or return on equity). He must set up and manage the financial planning and analysis team to help the CFO forecast future cash flow of the business and then compare actual results to what was budgeted. The CFO must play a critical role in analytics and decision making in the business. The CFO shall be part of creating optimal investment returns for the business.
He must work with CEO to help manage supply chain, procurement, information technology (IT), and almost any other department.
